DVDs are encoded by people. Need I say more?

There are standards for how they are encoded, but a lot of fields are optional and with no quality control on the content. (or maybe I should say insufficient quality control)

Here is one explanation of the DVD file format.

I am learning something here. But I would be surprised if the players are actually doing any translation. They are most likely accessing pre-translated text stored on the disc. That means that the failure you are seeing for that DVD you mentioned is possibly not due to the player, but that the translated text is not actually on the disc? (or video segments where the translation has been done)

Good info has been provided. For another layer of protection, using your old computer and database, you could upload your database to online and also do a full XML export. That will give you two more avenues for recovery later, if somehow the backup file continues to be a problem (unlikely).

Nope.  Tried that -- and just checked again-- and mine's not there under Purchased apps...

As I mentioned before, I do have a(nother) beat-up, decommissioned, old phone that has it still working, so I might use it just at home maybe for scanning UPCs I guess...

I'm also checking out My Movies in the meantime.  The importing of DVDP's exported file has been very dodgy.  Took many tries before it finally worked (for ~95% of my collection of over 2K titles)... and even then, the result is very wanting since it ignores almost all personal data, including changed Sort Titles -- and the handling of boxsets is a pain if you want to keep your old collection numbers.  And doesn't seem to have nearly the flexibility for reassigning collection numbers like DVDP, which I separate into different formats...  And the desktop software is excruciatingly slow... and heavy, requiring MS Sql Server (at least the PC version), despite being very spartan...  Seems really only usable as a mobile app or for small collection...

Some great info. Will add to my conversion notes. It would be possible to process profiler XML to compensate for some of those issues. Hopefully someday, I can work on it, or collaborate with somebody else to do it.

I’ve just noticed this as well, as I was planning on buying a new iPad, and checking that my apps would all be ok. It’s still on the Google Play Store, but not the App Store for iOS. Is DVD Profiler dead? I know it hasn’t been updated for a few years, but as it works ok, that’s not too much of an issue. But if it can’t be reinstalled, what alternatives are there? I use my iPad app daily, and would be screwed without it.

I never purchased the ios app, and am only a recent Apple convert. I tried to find profiler for my iPad mini just now, and indeed it was not there.

I suspect that with the large number of upgrades that Apple makes, the apps need to be continually validated to remain available in the store. Even the latest versions of macOS do not install on the old mac laptops and minis that a friend of mine gave me when he closed down his business.

So, I am of the mindset that maybe "DVD Profiler," as a set of services is generally not dead, thanks to the generosity of whomever manages Ken Cole's assets (hopefully and I pray that it is Ken himself), but it is pretty clear that further development has been shut down.

Do you mean "Profile Refresh Needed"?

If so, then look for those options on the "Online" menu. These are options that update the local database to reflect the latest online database contents.

F5 (Refresh Collections List) is different. This updates the UI to reflect the latest contents of the Local database.

Old post, but still relevant. We now have a direct results of lack of a "secure" site, with a user posting links to sex services.

As a point of information, I looked at the internal API and noticed that the collection type is stored as an integer. So I tested setting the integer to some big number, and nothing crashed. The API even returned the number back temporarily. But eventually, the API to get the collection type reverted back to the default. If the integer had "stuck" in the database, we could have written a plugin or used HTTPJolie to enable an external tool to support more categories.

I mention it because you never know when we might get lucky and such an approach allows us to get a new feature we previously thought was impossible. So keep the idea tucked away for the future.

Click the checkbox "Within Title" and the Edition will be found.

Oh, maybe not. In my test, "Archive Edition" seemed to be part of the title. The Edition field was something else.

Not a biggie, but if I have HTTPJolie enabled and disable it I get a DVDProfiler popup error with

Cannot access a disposed object.
Object name: 'System.Net.HttpListener'

I can cancel out of the popup and continue using profiler without issues. May be unique to my system.

Thanks for the report. I will be working on it.

New Release V1.27 Available

This is a utility release that fixes bugs and adds functions to maintain compatibility with GSyren Tools.

Please note: End User Documentation has NOT yet been updated for this release, due to personal constraints.

If you have downloaded this plugin previously, you do not need to order a new copy. Just use your existing login, use the Digital Downloads tab and re-download to get the update.

New Release V1.30 Available

New release to fix a connectivity issue introduced accidentally, which made it hard to find and recover from.

Everything else is the same except for bug fixes in some undocumented features, and the bug just mentioned is still not fixed.

I will now start working on known bugs and feature requests. I first wanted to get the two items fixed that were impacting Gunnar's progress.

Any way to share the full ISO (no shrinkage or other tampering ) image of one of the discs? Sounds like too juicy a problem to pass up.

Any reason you have not responded to this?

You could download a free trial of Cyberlink PowerDVD to see if that works.

Sorry, I must have missed your database entry. I will reset right away. I've been trying to get the company that makes my store software give me an easy way to reset in bulk.

Edit: Should be fixed now. If not, PM me and I will give you a direct link.

If you have truly refreshed the collection, you would have effectively done what you did for a single DVD, for each DVD in the collection. So, my guess is that you are not following the correct procedure, which is:

- Online > Refresh Online Profile List
- Online > Refresh Updated Profiles from Invelos

That should do it. Yes, it will take a long time.

This is why Invelos made a Backup / Restore option. You can restore from a backup, or from the online.

It appears you might have wiped out your online backup if you uploaded from an empty database?

@Magmadrag

Pardon my dumb question, but your sort title fields are not blank, right?

Sorry if you see my response as kind of an attack and I don't know what made you thinking this way.

But what in your opinion could I have done alternatively? No matter if T!Ms response includes facts or just an opinion, my answer was nothing else than an evidence that he can't be right.

Well of course he could be right. That means that you could be wrong. Be open minded and explore what could cause two people looking at the same facts to get two different answers? It usually means that one or both parties are missing something.

- An Invelos bug (yes, it happens)
- The website / backend doesn't work the way you think it does
- A glitch in the normal flow of contributions approvals - they are just people
- etc.

@Magmadrag

Sorry to intrude, but it seemed to me as though @T!M was trying to help with some detailed info that sounded reasonable to me. Why attack?

Another experienced user with a massive reputation score cannot be all wrong. Maybe a matter of interpretation?

I believe that just about anything you put into certain folders is backed up automatically along with the database:

- ScenePhotos
- CreditPhotos
- Filters
- Labels
- Flags

I am not sure what if any restrictions exist for filetypes and size. If anyone knows, please share info. But I think you could just add a folder(s) for your HTML and pics.

There is no folder setting for the plugins folder.

So if the plugins are not working, there is a registry issue.

To resolve:

- for Invelos Plugins, re-install DVD Profiler (that might fix everything)
- for non-Invelos Plugins, if not fixed by the prior step, re-install those plugins

And of course since you have chosen a non-default install directory, make sure that the plugin DLLs are in the \Plugins folder or sub-folder, where Profiler can find them.

You should be good to go.

It appears as though you have installed DVD Profiler in a different folder from before. Maybe you went from 32 bit to 64 bit?

Anyway, plugins should be saved in a folder path relative to the dvdpro.exe:

{location of dvdpro.exe}\Plugins\(name of plugin)\.... plugin files are usually here

Also:

{location of dvdpro.exe}\Plugins\CollectionGallery.dll
{location of dvdpro.exe}\Plugins\ViewFlagged.dll

Filters might also be an option for switching among groups of profiles with selected attrubutes.
