So there will be commands: ?cmd="getinfo"&item="discid" and ?cmd="getinfo"&item="win10discid"

Nice, but ... what is the practical use? You can't use it to set the disc id, can you?

Strange comment. Of course I could. Or the requesting user could. It is one of the information items. The practical utility of information is determined by the entity that gets the information. You don't need it, don't use it.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant that one cannot set the Disc ID in "Change UPC / Locality". It can only be read from the disc. That's where the real Windows 10 problem lies, isn't it?

If you mean set the PID, then absolutely. If you mean set the disc id in the Discs section, then maybe.

Edit: On second thought, that's not where the big problem is. I was confused. Of course it is in the Discs section, so it is really useful. Sorry for being so dense ...

Karsten has a brainstorming thread in the Plugin Developer Forum. Wanna join us there?

And by the way, it is possible to set the discID using the API. If the actual disc is not available, then the user would have to supply the value.

I plan to do some testing of various scenarios.

Updated the Command Reference to reflect a couple of additions to getinfo, including both legacy discid and win10discid, using the code that DJDoena developed, plus Profiler version and build info. Changing the discID is a BulkEdit function. Any need to also make it an HTTPJolie command?

I think it would be a good idea to include "Changing the discID" in "HTTPJollie" as I don't use "BulkEdit", the same may be true for other users.

Here are my thoughts on discID:

?cmd="changediscid"&pid="xxxx"&disc="1|2|..."(&newid="xxxx" or &drive="...")

- pid will have same options as all other commands, including "current"
- &drive="...", sets the discid from the drive, with option: drive="default"

?cmd="guesslegacydiscid"&collection="...", where collection is the usual: flagged,, filtered, custom, ...

Edit: I am not a fan of "all". If you want all, then flag them all. Also, as usual, long running jobs do not block. UDP messages are used to broadcast status.

- this is a method I worked out with DJDoena: if you don't have the disc in the drive, then there is nothing to use with which to compute the legacy discID. So, what I do is, use the title from the source DVD, and query the online for all profiles with that title whose submissions were accepted prior to Win10 1809. Then I scan all the DVD discs and make a list of the discIDs. Obvioulsy, they are all valid legacy discIDs. If the source discID is on the list, then it checks out OK. If not, then a good guess would be the most used one that matches the parameters of the source disc.

What do you think?

No, I have nothing to fill in on the other side, because I got no feedback on my question. I have no need for the feature personally.

OK, fair enough. Then can we expect a release of HTTPJulie soon? I'm really looking forward to it!

Also fair enough on your side. I keep adding to the list of features and trying to reconcile code that is common with BulkEdit and CLTBoss. When I find a bug or make a good change, I have to test it everywhere. Also, there are a couple of commands that really bear explanation, and I didn't finish the documentation / video. But I hear you, at some point I need to "put up or shut up"  . I am aiming for this week. We have had two big snowstorms in the last few days - the first being over 16" in my town. So, I have been giving my venerable snow blower a real workout. Remember, any Developer can get a pre-release any time. Just say the word.

Ok, I finally bit the bullet and released HTTPJolie. Please see the first post in this thread for information on how to download it, and documentation.

Disclaimers:

(1) DVD Profiler must be run "As adminstrator" for this plugin to work. I am not entirely sure why at the moment, and trust me, the moment that I figure out how to remove this restriction, I will do it.

(2) The plugin is probably still a bit rough around the edges. I welcome bug reports and will fix them with great urgency. That being said, requests for new or changed functionality will clearly have to be addressed sometime later. I already have my own list of things. That is one of the reasons I decided to go ahead and publish - to put a cap on the release, otherwise I was never going to get done.

(3) Documentation is still not complete. I have several additional tutorial videos planned to give more details on how to use key functions. But I already invested quite a bit of time on what is needed to understand the plugin's basic functions, how to use it, and the complete list of available functions. It would be a waste of my time and yours if you did not take advantage of the User Guide and Overview Tutorial, whose links are provided in the lead post. This documentation includes a Command Reference, and a video tutorial on how to read the command reference.

I hope you find this plugin useful. I have plans for many more powerful features.

Regarding my web site:

Just a note to folks about accessing my plugins. As I have posted before, I have no need for any personal information, and there is no need for you to give it. You can login as "Mickey Mouse" for all I care. But if you want to get update notices, and the ability to download new versions forever, then it makes sense to at least use a valid email address.

As a developer, who spends hundreds of hours and hundreds of dollars supporting my hobby of providing "free" plugins, I think I have the right to at least have an idea of the value I am providing. One way is to know how many downloads. I get very little forum feedback. And "free" should not mean "worthless."

If I can't convince myself that people value what I am doing (and it doesn't have to be a lot - I've been known to spend weeks solving a problem for a single user), then I need to re-evaluate my priorities in life. My hope is that my work is providing value. Otherwise, why would I be doing it ...

Also, as I have posted before, I do have a dummy account that anybody can use to login and download. Just PM me.

One more thing: If any web guru out there wants to donate some code that works on my site as a "download counter," I would be happy to take a look at it, as a possible alternative to the login process. Just PM me.

Interesting. No comments from the wider community. no downloads. Is it the plugin, is it me, or what? I seem to remember quite a few requests for a "server" of some sorts to the DVD Profiler database. Of course if it could have been made a true server, it obviously already would have been. But a simple way to get "instant" results from a browser, or a program, without needing to write your own plugin, anywhere in the network - don't get why that is not interesting.

I mean, if nobody wants it, even as free, then what am I doing?

Anybody care to share a view? (Gunnar, thanks for already sharing via PM).
