Recently for the last few weeks I have an issue with my Version: 4.0.0, Build 1762

I get this error message when I  try and update titles - ' tblCollection: Cannot modify a read-only dataset

bit of history on this case ..

i run my main data base in windows XP  (on drive C:    works flawlessly no errors ..

when I boot into Windows 10 on another drive within the PC ( dual boot system )  Profiler and it works flawlessly  , BUT the data itself ( drive E:, is different ( than whats on drive C: I have two data bases)  when I go into
File/ open data base and navigate to winxp  C:\Documents and Settings\Terry\MyDocuments\DVD Profiler\Databases\Default\

Now it used to work great for many many months  but something has happened recently  to in order this not to work any more and the error message is :  ( again)  tblCollection: Cannot modify a read-only dataset

Ideas ?/    and Yes I have run  repair  a number of times on both sides  ...  still get his error  whe nI try and swap into the winxp  backup profiler  onto windows 10

This sounds unnecessarily complicated.

Well, remember Microsoft updates W10 regularly, recently with a major update (concurs with your '...the last few weeks'), but many minors every so many weeks. This means authorisations and defaults may have been reset causing the sudden change of behaviour.

(AFAIK) Files from another user (in folders owned by that user) can be accessed only from an administrators account, or the sharing properties must be (re-)set to full access by the administrator so as to make them accessible by 'normal' users.

If you're using file explorer to access a restricted file or folder you get a message asking to confirm you want that as an administrator. Even if you're logged in as administator. Now I do not know the low level workings of DVDprofiler but it may well be that an access privilige issue may be returned as a 'read-only' problem in the user interface.

So, my suggestion would be to log in as W10 administrator and check the access rights (share profile) of the folders and files (!) concerned.

P.S. Note the relevant file(s) are names starting with "COLLECTION", not "tblCollection". This means the error was passed on from the inner workings of the database layer, so many 're-interpretations' may be done. FWIW.

If it is important, say it. Otherwise, let silence speak.

still have the same issue  thumb nails is not the issue ..

so for the time being I will have to use two data bases one for windows xp  o nC drive and  and one for windows 10 on my other drive  the windows xp  works flawlessly  and the windows 10 also works flawlessly in windows 10 , and by opening the database in displaying the windows xp profile in windows 10 - it will open and I can navigate thru out the title --,, but If I make any changes at all I  will get the error message stating :
tblCollection: Cannot modify a read-only dataset

something - somewhere is not talking to each other ...

Try running dvd profiler as administrator. Should solve any user authentication issues.

If not the issue, close dvdp, reboot and check file attributes of the folder containing the database and it's files. Make sure currently logged in user has modify privileges. Then start dvdp.

You are in the administrator group that has full permissions Even so, add yourself with full permissions and if that doesn't do it take ownership of the database (set it back if that doesn't work)

I'll add this in case anyone is searching. If you have graphics (or anything) that seems s\corrupt in Windows 10, check the permissions. Updates change things on some kind of whim
