There's no point in separating J.J. and J. J. as the database treats them the same upon submission.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

And you would be so wrong. One is J. J. Abrams [J.J. Abrams] and the other is J. J. Abrams, if you don't see and understand the difference, you have a problem.

Also this is not a common name thread.

So what are you suggesting?  That his first name is J.J., and should be entered into one field, or that J.J. Abrams is a stage name, and the entire name should be in the first name field?

Then what is it?
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I don't know what he is suggesting but, speaking for myself, if there isn't a space between the initials, i treat it as a first name.  Always have, always will.

Common Name is "J. J. Abrams".
All other like "J.J. Abrams", "Jeffrey Abrams" or "Jeffrey Jacob Abrams" is "credited as".

What is a common name per this program. The most commonly on-screen credited version of a person's name.
And the most commonly on-screen credited version is J.J. Abrams (a fact that you can't dispute). But since the name field isn't set up as FM/L (which I think it should be), but rather F/M/L. So it is auto-filtered to J. J. Abrams but it doesn't make it the common name but a forced auto-filter name.

It just boggle's my mind how people who preach "the letter of the rules" ignore it when it comes to initialed names, the first sentence in the cast/crew section of the contribution rules - Take Crew Credits from the film credits only; list names exactly as they are in the credits. Exception: If the credit information is entirely capitalized, use standard capitalization rules instead.

Well I guess who could call it a stage name. He started out as Jeffrey Abrams and changed it to J.J. Abrams.

Then what is it?

An observation from watching all these discs that people have ignored the rules for cast and crew. (for this person roughly 1200 profiles incorrect, do you think that might skew the CLT results?)

Anything can be disputed.  Maybe it's "J . J .    Abrams".

if there were any J . J . Abrams credits I would have listed them.
I do still have 3 Lost seasons, 2 Revolution seasons and 2 Fringe seasons sitting here to do.

The actually Common Name is "J. J. Abrams" i cant find any other in the database.

You wrote that this thread is no common name thread, but disagree with the actual common name.

So what is this thread all about?

Because that is not the actual common name.  Based on all the credits I have seen, the actual common name is 'J.J. Abrams'.  The reason the CLT shows it as 'J. J. Abrams' is because that is how people have entered it.

This thread, as far as I can tell, is to point out that fact.

Isn't there an automatic filter which takes an entry of J.J. Abrams and enters it as J. J. Abrams [J.J. Abrams].

So even though the "common name" may in fact be J.J. Abrams, the system will not allow it to be contributed as such.

Or am I losing my mind?
