| Posted: | | | | I doubt this post will really make any difference; I can't remember the last time I've seen a website request actually implemented (of course I could be overlooking some; no disrespect intended), but in the small case it might make a difference... Right now, forum blocks are not private. If a user clicks "My Profiler," and "Blocked Users," they can see a list of specific users who are blocking them. On this list, these users do not have an "Unblock" link in the action column. It should not be like this. In fact, this is the only forum I've ever encountered where blocked users have the ability to see who is blocking them. This information should be PRIVATE. If someone blocks a user, the blocked user should NOT be able to see specifically who is blocking them. Sometimes (not that often), a forum system will return a message if someone tries to PM a user who is blocking them saying that they've been blocked by that user. That also makes blocking not private. PM's to a user who is blocking should either go to some kind of black hole (delete), or be delivered, but unviewable to the user who is blocking until that user unblocks, and the sender of the message should get no notification that they are being blocked. (It would appear to the sender that they are just being ignored.) This is actually kind of a big deal when it comes to privacy and such. Anyway, to the owners and operators of Invelos, please think about it! | | | 99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1." |

| Posted: | | | | Forum Blocks already are private.
What's not private are the PM-blocks and this only because they effect the blocked user directly. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | Oh yeah, you're right! I was mixing it up. I misread (or didn't read) closely enough... I thought forum blocks were listed first, then PM, not the other way around. Still, PM blocks should be private, as mentioned above. | | | 99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1." | | | Last edited: by Grendell |

So what's the difference between knowing you're on someone's block list and being ignored by that person? You still know they're ignoring you. --------------- |

Because "Forum Block" just means that the block-setter doesn't see the post of the blocked poster. Sourcecya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

cya, Mithi So by blocking a user, I am in fact censoring myself from viewing possible false or erroneous statements from the blocked person. Brilliant! |

we should not be asking to reduce options. Some of the rules & options make me wonder. Did anyone actually think them through or were they thrown together in a week. And who came up with them? |

Yes, indeed it is. Certain people are far beyond the point of no return, so why waste my precious time with reading them? cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

| Posted: | | | | I do not see the interest of PM blocks and forum blocks. It is so easy not to open a PM, or not to read a post... I know I'm PM blocked by a user to whom I never sent any PM. So I think it is a way for him (her) to show that he (she) do not agree with my opinion, but I already knew that... | | | Images from movies |

| Posted: | | | | The only problem I have with PM blocks (I don't use them myself), is that if you are blocked, you have no way to communicate with the user privately - by definition. In my case, I have been blocked by a user since last year, and I haven't the foggiest clue why. Maybe it was a mistake, maybe intentional, but I have no way to even inquire why or apologize if needed, or whatever, and I prefer not to take it public. So, I just sit blocked, with this question mark on my mind. It is totally not my style to harass somebody by PM, so I really wonder why I am blocked ... | | | Thanks for your support. So it's not really a loss. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?
