Ok while doing some personalizing on a dvd, some non standard text was keyed into one of the fields be it the date or cost, when I went to "cancle" because I didn't want to save the changes, it would error with invalid entry vs just reset the field and exiting the edit. It would exit w/o saving if I red X'ed the edit box.

I am not sure what was entered or which of those 2 boxes was fubar but it might be something to look into, just for handling the behavior.
