kidding aside ... I always not only check to make sure there is a dvd inside but I also make sure it can play back ( disc ID).. because it may very well be 10 years until I watch it ......

I just never thought about it. Just Passing buy the Bin seen the title picked it up and finished my shopping. Now I going to check it out before leaving store. It was one of those cheap cases they use now.

I've only ever had one DVD that was missing the disc when I opened it. That was a Troma DVD called Fortress of Amerikkka. It was still perfectly factory sealed and still had the security sticker at the top. No disc inside though.

I bought a Blu-ray once that was even more bizarre. I even ordered it directly from Warner Bros. Shop online on a sale. When I opened it, the disc was actually SLICED IN HALF on one half side to the inner spindle of the disc. It was also perfectly factory sealed and had the security sticker intact. I'm still trying to figure out how that one happened!

When I worked for BMC of San Francisco, we were gathered together on the sales floor one Saturday morning for a pep talk by the man who oversaw the importation of all new Rolls Royces west of the Mississippi. His was a quick talk, stressing the importance of customer service: that often vehicles, even a Rolls, could have faults. He stated clearly that among all manufactured goods made in the world, more than 3% were flawed when shipped. That bolts could be too large or small, nuts the same, and so on. That it did not matter whether Rolls manufactured the parts or they bought them from suppliers whose quality control was as tight as Rolls. If 100% of everything were perfect, that beyond damaging a vehicle, all a Rolls would need to last a century would be gas, oil, lube, filters, points and spark plugs. Nothing would loosen, nothing would become overtight and belts would last for peoples' lifetimes.

I bought the first season of Twin Peaks when it first came out. When I opened the shrinkwrap when I got home from the WalMart, it had two disc threes and no disc two. I returned the set, their customer service person sent someone to bring another copy of the set and insisted we open the set to ensure the discs were correct. We joked that it would have two dosc twos and no disc three, but the new set was correct. He and I recognized that we live in an imperfect world and errors occur. He was as pleased as I was to have the situation fixed and for me to own a correct box set.

Problems are not a problem if everyone works to make things right.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Cliff

After having the same thing happen to me, I now rattle every case to see if I can hear the disc inside.
