I have to confess I do not understand the reason for the distinction between 'collection' and 'browse'

I do see the use of the browse interface though, to me they are a sort of pre-made filters to search through your collection. But unlike filters they cannot be stacked, i.e. when you browse a genre there is no way to browse the 'unwatched' part of that set.

And the filtering is in some ways more powerful, but lacks basic filters like genre.

Also the "browse" interface only works on the 'owned' collection, so you cannot filter your wishlist.

What it all comes down to is that I feel very limited by the artificial distinction between browse and collection. If I add up their possibilities I think I could create most searches I could think.

Some example searches which are currently not possible, mostly due to the split between browse and collection:

- SF movies not watched by my wife
- kidsmovies on the wishlist
- unwatched movie suitable for 10 year with Dutch subtitle

Hmm. While writing this down and verifying it on my iPod I see I cannot run these searches for two more reasons:

1) Cannot specify person with (non-)watched. But that is already posted about more on this forum.
2) Cannot browse for subtitle languages, only for audio languages.

I've been campaigning hard core for this for sometime on these forums (basically since it first hit the app store) and agree with you completely. I don't see the need to have them separate. When looking at our catalog and/or filtering it, are we not browsing it?

I think that as you said, combining them would be very beneficial.

I actually prefer them separate as I don't usually browse...as it is in the app...my collection.  I prefer to go through it by title...as it is in the collection tab.  Seems to me that you want a better browse function, which is fine but, please, don't get rid of the collection tab.

But what you aren't getting is that when you view by title, you are browsing. You simply don't have any filters turned on.

Removing the ability to filter in the "collection" tab, but adding filters to the browse tab would work, but I think what we want is more control than that.

In fact, the way I envision it is you open the app to the current collection screen where you see each collection button (owned, ordered, wish list, etc) and when you click one, you see it the way you currently do. Though, when you click on the filter list, you then see the current main screen for browse with all of the possible ways of breaking down what you see. After you pick one, you can sort and view from there, or add another filter which again gives you the current browse screen and breaks the viewing down even more.
