I would like to find the common name for actor George (Gabby) Hayes.  He appeared in a lot of old western films.  I do not trust the CLT counts, as I found that films I could verify what the credit was were listed under more than one variant.

Also, the most common variant in the CLT (and the one that I found listed wrongly in every case for films I had) is the way IMDB lists him.

He is also listed for box set profiles that have no dividers, so I have not listed those films here as I could not tell which film he is listed for in those incorrectly done profiles.

Using the CLT, he is credited for the following films with the following variants.  I have verified all the ones in my collection, if anybody has any of the other titles could you please let me know what he is credited as.

Ummm, this is kind of important.  I was wondering what in the world Gabby Hayes would be doing in an English production of David Lean's Great Expectations.  Turns out not a darn thing.  There are two George Hayes and you have both of their filmographies mixed together.  This could potentially screw up your results.

Woooo Hoooo, can't say I am surprised. Now all we have to do is solate George from Gabby and determine Gabby was ever credited simply as George.

Turns out, regardless of the results, I kept the "Gabby" version for my local to seperate the two.  I thought something smelled funny and had already cleaned this up locally.  While the actual results may prove to be Gabby-less, this forces us to use birthyears, which strikes me as silly since there is a well known nickname we can use to keep them seperate.  But, not my problem as I have already fixed it locally.

He definitely was credited as George, since the films I verified with him are all westerns and I definitely spotted him in some of them as I was flitting through toward the credits.  I wondered about the Great Expectations one myself, but figured he might not have appeared only in westerns.  I'll see what I can do about eliminating the other George from the list.

Thanks for the heads up guys!

EDIT: Looks like the elimination for the other George Hayes is three films - Great Expectations, Case of the Frightened Lady and Return of the Frog.  Took those out of the list above.

Sounds like a man in need of a birth year.  I have a bunch of these and will try to verify them tonight.  Love me that Gabby!

Tumbling Tumbleweeds: George Hayes
In Old Monterey: George "Gabby" Hayes (double quotes)
Melody Ranch: George "Gabby" Hayes (double quotes)
Mystery Liner (on the Roan Group DVD of The Human Monster) : George Hayes
Hearts in Bondage : George Hayes
My copy of The Stolen Jools on the Laurel & Hardy and Friends DVD has no cast credits at all, though just about everyone in Hollywood is in it.  Gabby is verified as being in it, FWIW, as a projectionist; his voice is unmistakable even though he's in a suit and has no beard.

Thought I had more of these than this, but that's all I can verify.
