I would like the subtitles section of DVDP to have a new option: None. I see that much more informative than having no subtitles listed in a contribution. The latter case leaves open the possibility that the contributor(s) just haven't bothered to check them. Of course "None" would be an exclusive label to choose: if "None" is selected, no languages can be selected with it and vice versa.

Seeing "None" selected in a contributed profile would give an indication that someone has at least checked about the subtitles.

This stems from the experience yesterday, when I visited local DVD store that has great selection of blu-rays in the store. I found Eureka's release of "Junebug", and was interested to purchase it. However, there was no mention of any subtitles on the back cover. The sales person said that there probably are English subtitles, as other Eureka's releases according to him have them, but he couldn't verify it (no blu-ray player ready in the store, and when he checked Amazon and Play he couldn't find any mention of subtitles there either. So, I decided not to buy it yet and instead check DVDP what the profile says. No subtitles listed in the contributed profile either.

Of course all this is a strong indication that there really aren't any subtitles, but having a profile in DVDP saying that there is "None" subtitles would be much more helpful than having no subtitles listed at all.

And while on topic, another request is to include with "None" the option "Forced", when you have no option to set subtitles off.

P.S. Anyone who has Eureka's "Junebug" blu-ray. Could you please confirm about the subtitles, thanks.

Indeed, it would avoid any confusion over whether or not the subtitles simply haven't been included.

Thanks for the link, Astrakan! Yes, it indeed was this UK release that I held in my hands in that DVD store. Such a shame that there are no subtitles. Odd too, as they say in that review. I have close to 150 blu-rays and only ONE is without subtitles: U.S. edition of "The Big White". Junebug is now the second that I know of.

There doesn't seem to be U.S. edition, either. Well, maybe later...

So "none" could only be used when verified, but submitting any other subtitles based on what the cover says would still be fine? Close Captioning and subtitles are two completely different things, but yes, it would be nice to collect SDH data too. Tic box wouldn't work though 'cause if we has this option implemented, we need to be able to separate if disc has both. For example we can have English, English (commentary) and English (SDH) on the same disc.
