That seems to be a common misconception. The program DOES differentiate:

But again: the system does distinguish between them, and we do need to decide which one is the common name. Bottom line: it's true that the CLT sweeps them all together, just like it ignores birth years. But the system does differentiate, and we do have to decide whether the most commonly credited form is "deVetta", "DeVetta" or "Devetta".
