I am using DVDInfoPro to get some layer info for some discs that did not have IDs.  While doing this I am doing the Region thing too.  But i have now noticed something.  Is there a way to tell the diffrence between no region and every region in DVDInfoPro, and is there a diffrence?

Profiler give a None choice.  Or 1 -6.  DVDInfo lists a region 7 and 8.

I put a home made DVD in and DVDInfo listed all the regions, 1-8.  Well i did not region code it.  So this i believe would be a region free or None disc (if i were adding it, but i am not).

Is that how you tell if it is region free or not in DVDInfo.  If it list 1-6, check all of them.  If it lists 1-8, then pick None as the region code?

from the rules: DVD Specification
Regions
List the Region(s) shown on the cover, unless you can verify there is a discrepancy between that and the region coding on the disc.
List DVDs encoded for at least Regions 1-6 as "All." Regions 7-8 are ignored for the purposes of DVD Profiler.
RCE discs report region information incorrectly when analyzed. If RCE is present, use the box information.

When adding regions not listed on the cover, include your verification method (including of RCE presence) in your contribution notes.
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

ok i am still a little confused.  What is RCE?
Also, there is no ALL choice, so i assume i just check all the choices.

Now how do I tell if i don't pick any of the regions.  I suspect Rescue from Gilligan's Island (yeah, don't ask, but i bought it  for $1).  UPC 72322004130.  It says "Compatible with all DVD Players"
I suspect this is region free.  but instead DVDInfo lists regions 1-8.

do i pick anything or leave them all blank?

This basically explains what RCE is: http://www.dvdtalk.com/rce.html

Do not check "ALL" of the boxes if it shows Region 1-6 or even Region 1-8. You actually wouldn't check any at all (all blank), and it will then correctly show up as "No region coding" in the program (identical to All Regions coded).

BTW, IFOEdit is more reliable than DVD Info Pro when determining regions. For example, sometimes DVD Info Pro can show that a DVD is region 2 and 4, when in reality it's only region 2. IFOEdit shows the correct region only. It's freeware, and can be downloaded from here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd-r_tools/ifoedit.cfm

To find the region when running IFOEdit, do the following:
1. Press Open in the lower left corner
2. Choose your DVD drive from the pulldown menu and then the VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD and then open the file called VIDEO_TS
3. Choose VMGM_MAT in the top window. The region will then be displayed in the lower window.

Please remember that you cannot  and must not contribute a "home made" DVD.  It's okay to have one in your local database, but we aren't allowed to contribute them to the main database.  I know you didn't say you wanted to contribute it, but for the benefit of any newbies out there who don't know, I thought I would point it out.
