I was searching the Credit Lookup Tool for "James MacDonald" vs. "James G. MacDonald" (aka "James MacDonald"), and the most credited variant is "James MacDonald", so that should be the linking Name.

But then, I realized that there are two "James MacDonald": one (also known with the G. middle name) appears in some modern TV shows like Buffy, the other one was a voice in Disney's Cinderella, but the CLT lists both their credits together.

For instance,

"James MacDonald" is credited in the following 266 titles (680 profiles):

Isn't this something like the 5th thread in the last week bashing the credit lookup tool?  Don't get me wrong, I think the thing is fatally flawed and have basically boycotted it, but we should probably consolidate this stuff.

Here's what i wrote about James G. MacDonald in September when i updated the profile for Broken Arrow (086162104206):

Quote:
MacDonald credited with middle initial.  In film at 8:59 (another picture at http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/James_MacDonald).  I now propose changing him to as credited - James G. MacDonald.  He has multiple credits under name w/ & w/o initial according to our Credit Tool DB and i can't find a BY.  In Profiler DB James & James G. MacDonald credits are a mess, some this guy, some the guy who voiced Mickey Mouse in the 40s & 50s and probably some by the other 3 actors with this name (according to IMD*).

The profile had him as J//M but he was credited as J/G/M and i was trying to determine the common name.

I can't find a birth year but he's got a middle initial that can be used that to separate him from the others.

OK, but can we document that he is actually credited as "James G. MacDonald" more often than as "James MacDonald"? (as opposite to what the Credit Lookup apparently shows, because it also lists other actors with name "James MacDonald").

EDIT: According to IMDb, there are 15 "James MacDonald" (five actors and ten crew members), but there is only one "aka James G. MacDonald".
The problem is that "James G. MacDonald" is apparently also often credited as "James MacDonald"
For instance, all his credits in "24" seem to be under "James MacDonald", according to the CLT!

In the Credit Lookup Tool, "James G. MacDonald" is credited in 58 titles (93 profiles) and
"James MacDonald" is credited in 266 titles (680 profiles).

Being a comparatively common name adds difficulty in separating any of these James'.  Even if all the profiles were perfect, without BYs it will be hard to tweeze one from another.

The middle initial version may not end up being the most common but it will provide uniqueness.
