IMO, gift sets need their own section in the rules.

You are correct, but they were sold as multi-movie sets.  They were not sold as individual releases.

Well, that 1 reason is all that is really needed to qualify this.

If the set contains 1 title, it does not qualify as a box set under the current rules.  Now that I think about it, the LotR example doesn't even qualify as a ""Bonus Feature Film" set.  The rule says:

"Do not confuse "Bonus Feature Films" with "Any video documentary material regarding the film, or those associated with it."

As I recall, this was in direct response to the 'From Dusk Till Dawn' set (717951005786), which included the "Full-Length Feature 'Full-Tilt Boogie'."  Some people wanted to turn it into a box set using the same reasoning that Leiterfluid used earlier.  Well, now we have a definition of what is and isn't considered a film.

On a personal level, I don't do it that way.  I prefer the empty profile as well, but that is my personal preference and I will keep that where it belongs. 

I'd go with box set, but I think listing cast and crew on the main profile and otherwise treating it as a boxset is a reasonable compromise.
