If you UPLOAD then you're transferring your local collection onto the website.
If you DOWNLOAD then you're transferring the website collection and overwriting your local collection.
So it's always safer to ask first!

Yeah, always upload unless you really enjoy adding DVD's to your collection - as in over and over again.

When you add a new DVD to your collection, you download the profile (covers, cast/crew etc.). At this step nothing can happen. Once you downloaded the profile you can edit this. E.g. using better scans, correct synopsis, add cast/crew etc. After this you can lock your profile (right click on the title/lock). This means that your local profile (those locked items) will not be overwritten when you  refresh your profiles via the online update.

Upload:

there a two possible uploads:
1. Personal database
You can upload your database to your online presentation. this is more or less a mirror to your online collection for public viewing (personal setting available one the profiler website after logging in)

2. Contribution
If you have improvements to existing profiles, you can contribute by uploading to the main online database. This should be done very careful. Reading and understanding the contribution rules is mandatory!

3. Remarks
You should know that there are some limitations if you do not own the unlimited registration!
