Hi!

I was trying to submit several new (and much better) cover scans, but I was not able to only submit the new cover scans. DVD Profiler also submitted the profile. Earlier I've been able to select what I wanted to submit on the invelos.com-site, but not with these movies.

When selecting "Contribute DVD Profile" you can take away the check for "Include cover scans", but what about a choice of not contributing the profile, but ONLY the cover scans?

Because DVD Profiler added both the profile and the cover scans, all my cover scans contributions tonight was declined by the "screeners".

Thanks!
mvh

Yes, that's possible. Tick the "Include cover scans" checkbox when contributing, and then when you're in the contribution screen, simply don't tick any of the checkboxes, just click "submit" at the bottom. Then only your scans will be submitted for evaluation.

Keep in mind that it isn't always easy to get cover scans approved - they must be a "significant improvement" over the existing images, and that's rather subjective. What looks good on your monitor, may not look so great for someone else, and vice versa. If the difference is not too obvious, it's often helpful if you use the contribution notes to point out WHY you feel your images are superior to what's currently in the database. A short comment may help the screeners in deciding which is the better image.

That's what I do usually. But with the 9 movies I've tried to contribute with new cover scans tonight, that option didn't show up. Only the "contribution notes" box where you write what you have changed and where the information is from.

It was a "significant improvement" this time. The old cover scans was "stamp-sized" and the new one I submitted was 500x700 pixles.

The reason for the decline of both profile and covers was: (on all 9)

"Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions."

If you included images with your contribution (so you ticked the Include cover scans" checkbox, right?), and you don't see any images on the contribution screen, my guess is that your images were already approved with a previous contribution. If you've submitted scans before, they were accepted, and the images in your local database haven't changed since then, the system will recognize them as being the same, and will not allow you to re-contribute them (since they're the same, it isn't necessary).

Note that it's not unusual that a while a contribution to the profile gets declined, the accompanying images do get accepted. Maybe that's what happened? That your images were already accepted, while the other part of your update was declined?

If nothing in the profile showed up that means the existing profile matches yours and you have nothing to worry about. A little box above the scans will usually show up with a yellow background and red letters saying "there were no changes in the profile", but it's small and easily overlooked. I would wager this is what happened with the latest batch of covers submitted, unless I'm completly misunderstanding and you're saying the covers aren't showing either. Never seen that happen.

One other thought.
If nothing is showing up you might be getting the "can't accept contributions because they aren't in your collection" screen. Have you uploaded your whole list to your profiler webpage? I always used to try and submit stuff before uploading my expanded collection and getting this. I think it would give me a submit page similar to new submissions (where you can't see anything you submitted, just decline and submit buttons on the bottom of page).

I've got the 9 movies for years, but tonight I decided to scan the cover scans, since them was in a size we usually see stamps. So the cover scans I have in my DVD Profiler and submitted tonight is from TONIGHT.

Yes, my collection is uploaded to my "Online Collection" and is always up-to-date.

Cool, so scratch opition 2...
Are you saying you're not seeing the scans or not seeing anything at all for the profiles (cast, overview, etc.) when submiting? If just profile, then see my first post. If nothing at all, then T!m probably has it right, even though it doesn't make sense if you're seeing small crappy pictures in your up to date local. I've never not been able to see my cover submisssions execpt when submitting new UPC's or new profiles all together, except when I hadn't uploaded the disc yet.

The only other thing I can think of is that if these are old discs, maybe the UPC's didn't get updated when the program moved to invelos. I had this happen a couple times as well (or maybe I just put in the wrong versions by title back on intervocative). I know at least twice the UPC was old and didn't have the first and last numbers which didn't used to get submited. When going through my profile I scanned new covers and fixed cast/crew lists, only to go and submit and get an error, then find out the UPC was wrong and the new profile with the right UPC also had nice scans and corrected info. Now I double check the UPC before starting an audit.

If you had these movies in DVD Profiler 2.x and upgraded to 3 it could be that you have them in your local DB but they were never uploaded to the online DB. So when you submit the new image it treats it as a new profile. I would check to see if they are in the online DB by trying to add one and see if it's available.

If they are not in the online DB you will have to treat them as a new submission.

This sounds like what is going on to me. For new submissions you don't get a way to pick which part of the profile you would like to contribute.

If I try to add one of them as a new dvd in my local DVD Profiler, the movie has a "normal" sized cover scans (approx 500x700), but if I tried to request a cover scan-update on my existing profile in my DVD Profiler from Invelos, I don't get an update.

I've tried the same thing with some of the other movies and have "stamp-sized" covers, the same things happens there.

Is this a upgrade-from-dvd-profiler2-to-dvd-profiler3-problem?

A strange thing, is that the movies (with this problem) IS in my online collection, but without cover scans.

Btw; I've used DVD Profiler since october 2003.

As there is not possible to get multiple profiles of the same UPC/EAN in to the database, (if you dont use another base for this) I can only think that the UPC/EAN transfer from version 2 did not translated the UPC/EAN correctly. And the once you see in your base have 12 digits maybe, instead of the correct 13 we use now (European DVD that is)  And they are simply different profiles.

EDIT:  Can you say witch one of the profiles you have trouble with...  for example your 5-708758-664448 The Whole Ten Yards and 5-706122-244647 Den Talentfulle Mr. Ripley are not in the Database and thats why you don't have coverscans for those in your base, those has to be contributed again..
We are all at the same age, only at different time...

All the "problem-profiles" have UPC/EAN with 13 digits. (identical with the one on the back cover)

This is the 9 movies we started with today. The cover scans I had earlier today was stamp-sized ones. I scanned new ones in 500x700 pixles and tried to contribute them, but they was declined.

7-036988-001831
7-036988-001817
7-036988-001824
7-036988-001923
7-036988-001947
7-036988-001862
7-036988-001916
7-036988-001848
7-036988-001930

I've got problems with several more movies. It's two things they have in common: They have stamp-sized cover scans in my local DVD Profiler and NONE cover scans whatsoever in my online collection.
