Does anybody actually use the online proflie locks (in the Database section)?

I admit, I would like to use it, but I don't really have the patience to sit and click through 20 locks per profile. I would really like to see a "Lock all" option...

Since we have partial upload and partial acceptance and the possibility to vote, the online locks are not that useful anymore. They even have the disadvantage, that sometimes because of a program or rule change you cannot make the necessary corrections because the affected field is locked.

I believe that when they were implemented, a provision was included whereby Invelos (Intervocative at the time) would unlock them.

I think all it takes is a PM to Ken or Gerri who review the request.  For program or rule changes that impact a field, it should be a no-brainer to unlock it.

Partial uploads and partial acceptances do not keep people from contributing bad data (or ping ponging data) to the online database.

Unfortunately, the system is very time consuming for the user community, and based on my observations, not many people actually go in and place locks on fields.  Partial acceptance has definitely contributed to this since people can just prevent the bad data from hitting their local database.

I'm sure you knew this tip, but I'll run it past for any one who didn't know.,
if you flag all your filtered titles in a particular column, then go to FLAGGED/ EDIT LOCKS., you could pick and choose what you would want to edit or lock out in the twenty fields to choose from. and if you reverse the process you can unlock your profiles as well. The flagged feature is a godsend for picking certain if not all titles to edit/print or view on demand.

He's not talking about local locks, but the online locks.  Click on Database, then from that screen click on View / Edit Locks.  These are the locks that prevent data from even being submitted in the first place.

So if I choose to lock the title for something like The Birds and 5 other people also add a lock, you would not be able to contribute a change to the Title unless it dropped below 6 locks or Ken manually went in and unlocked it.

Ah yes,, I have seen those pesky locks,, and not very often too., One time , years ago, I had a good contribution for a particular title and it was locked,, so I had to get on the forums and ask publicly, 'Who has the key?' ,, But in your Post here Mark, you're saying to PM Ken, if that scenario arises again?

Yes, you would either ask in the forums or send Ken a PM.  Of course if you PM Ken, you should have proof that it needs to be unlocked.
