I'm processing a new DVD that isn't in the database, and now I'm not exactly sure how to do it...

In the credits, up comes something like this:

SECOND UNIT
Director of Photography: Donald F. Duck

(Names changed to protect the innocent!  )

What exactly is a Second Unit? Do we credit them?

Quote form Wikipedia:
Quote:
In film, the second unit is a team that shoots footage which is of lesser importance for the final motion picture, as opposed to the first unit, which shoots all scenes involving actors, or at least the stars of the film. Second unit footage typically includes shots like scenery, close-ups of objects and other inserts or cutaways.

No.

Is there actually a rule stating that we don't enter second and "other" unit crew or is it a general consensus that we all follow.
I only ask because i cannot find anything in the rules about it.

Unit photographers are specifically excluded. It's sort of extrapolated from that, but you are correct that it's not expressly excluded.

Reinforcing this is the notation for Directors:

Do not include Unit Directors or Directors of Special Features

Another one I've run across is "Battle Sequences directed by Donald F. Duck" (he does get around).  I'm treating this as second unit and not crediting it, but there are also second unit directors credited so it seems to be somewhere between the two.  It's on the same title card as the principal director, if that makes a difference.  Would anyone take a different approach?

True. I forgot that one.

I treat them as unit crew also.
