No. The best work-around is to use Tags.

Yes, you can do that very easily with a translation file. For example, you "translate" "Special Interest" by "Crime", if it is what you want. Then you keep everything local.

Tools>Options>System>Language>New

The only thing you need to remember is that if you change the meaning of a genre, you'll have to check the genres of every title you add, since they may be incorrect.
