Hello all

I recently submitted an update for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (region 2).
At the same time someone else had also submitted an update.

Mine was the more accurate...but got no votes for such reasons as "already submitted", "work already done".

Now, correct me if I'm wrong....but isn't voting NO to CORRECT data a violation of the rules?

Surely if contributions overlap you should be voting on the information in the update IN FRONT OF YOU.

In this case my contribution corrected cast and role errors and could potentially have been rejected because people voted no without good cause.

I'm normally pretty good at not duplicating the work of others...but it does happen occassionally.
It's very frustrating to get a NO vote on work that is correct.

I don't have the title so I can't see exactly what was already done.  But in the long run, it may sound like you should withdraw and wait until the other one gets released and then submit your corrections.

Pending contributions for the same title are not acceptable reasons to vote 'no'.  If your data is correct, and doesn't remove correct data that the pending contribution is adding, it should get a 'yes' vote.

I agree with Unicus... as long as you are not undoing any correct work in the first one... and there is no problems with your update... you should get yes votes.

Neill:

I would ask you why you would not bother to check and see if there was such pending information already out there, so that the users and the screeners are not burdened by having to deal with 2, 5, 8 different Contributions of the SAME data.

I agree with Unicus and Addicted, you can't vote no on the basis of a pending submission because there's always the chance that the first submission could be declined.
I would try and project what would happen if both submissions were accepted. If yours doesn't remove any info then they should not be voting no.

While I understand your argument, north. My question still satnds, and the answer is either the user simply didn't use his head and look before jumping into the pool or the user is trying to stoke his ego, I presume the former is the correct answer. I always check FIRST, then I try to NOT create overlapping Contributions. If you submit a CORRECT Cast/Crew set and I come behind you, I will submit other data which you did not Contribute but the Cast?Crew data will not be submitted. Simple courtesy to you as a fellow Contributor, the other users who have to vote on the Contributions and the screeners who ultimately have to deal with the Contribution. And as I such I disagree with your position, with all due respect.

I've just looked at the 4(!!) pending submissions and despite the fact that there are overlaps, your submission still also corrects stuff that the others don't.
If you really wanted to, you could resubmit but without the overview or features, but that is your decision, and you certainly wouldn't do any damage by leaving your submission as is.

Skip, this is a brand-new title, just out this week and as such overlaps are only to be expected. it's highly possible that when he checked, there were no pending submissions.

That is possible and in such a case then I would withdraw in favor of the most complete Contribution. This is not about getting your name in lights, this is about not creating more work and confusion for other voter/users and the screeners, we all have enough to do without having to deal with the foolish among us. I know this week there have been several instances where I was dealing with other Contributions and I tried not to duplicate anything, as I always do.

This is why I don't submit updates for new releases until it's been out for a week or two.  Let the dust settle first.

In this particular case, Pantheon's is the most complete submission! And looking at the other submissions possibly the only one that deserves a yes vote.

LOL, North, I am not dealing with the Region 2 release, but as you describe it I would say yes to Neill's and No to competing less complete work, now I'll bet that surprises Neill.....NOT!!!!!!

FYI Skip

When I submitted my update I ONLY put forward information that wasn't holding in the online db.

My issue is simply that people voted NO to information that was correct purely on the ground that it overlapped with another contribution. (The overlap was the Features and the Overview).

However, I was making significant corrections to the cast which, potentially, could be refused because people are voting NO to correct data.

Surely that is not correct and a violation of the voting rules.

If I understand you correctly, old friend. The overlap came from users overlapping YOU not vice versa, if that's true then as far as I am concerned the Overlaps should be voted No and DECLINED. If you created the Overlap then I would resubmit without the Overlap, and in worst case I would edit my notes to reflect the Overlapping Contributions and would PERHAPS consider removing the Overlaps on my own.

Pantheon -
Here is what I usually do. I always first check to see what had been contributed and then I submit my contribution minus the previous contributor's contribution. I also say something like, "I didn't add, (fill in blank), not to mess up Pantheon's contribution." How many times can I say contribution in one post?
