What should be entered in the Edition field for Buffy DVD Collection - New Edition?  (5-039036-018586 UK)

Please notice that another edition also has "DVD Collection" on the cover (5-039036-005760 UK)

Each has a unique UPC/EAN...so what's the problem?

Of course you can contribute both editions. But, what would you enter in the Edition field, if anything?

Maybe I wasn't very clear in my question, now I edited it to make it clearer (I hope!).

Based on that cover I would put the title as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Two DVD Collection"

The season identifier of "Season Two DVD Collection" should be part of the title per the rules and the Edition field is left emtpy.

As 8ball pointed out, so what if it's identical to another release.  Each one has it's own UPC/EAN so they won't be confused.

I tried to contribute Edition: DVD Collection,
leaving the Title as it is Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season #
but it got a No vote  with the following reason:
Quote:
Ediition does not distinguish between this M-Lock version and the Book version.  Both have DVD collection on them. Something more distinct perhaps?

and in PM we agreed to put it on the forum for a wider view.

Looking at the case I agree with Vega... "Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Two DVD Collection" should all be in the title field as it is on the case... not broken up. I know the DVD Collection part don't seem right but we have to deal with the same thing for the Angel sets where it says "Angel: Season # On DVD"

I agree with Vega and Pete. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Two DVD Collection" should all go into the title field. There's no need to enter anything in the Edition field. Like I said before each of the releases you cite have their own unique UPC/EAN so there nothing to "distinguish".

I guess the No voter referred to the Rules where they say

But, if "DVD collection" is part of the Title, that would be a different kettle of fish.

But that's a weak argument. Almost all different releases of the same movie (e.g. Vanilla and SE) have different UPCs, following your argument there would be rarely the need to fill out the edition field.

The edition field is for "search by title" IMHO.

Just to be clear Karsten, I wasn't referring to films on DVD. My remark was confined to the TV Box set in question here.

the argument of the no vote is really weak and very wrong. Many many movies has been released with different UPC but the exact same title and has the exact same edition too eg SE DC CE and so on Actually Buffy and angel are beautiful examples.

I would put dvd collection in the edition field as this has nothing to do with the season descripition but describes this release as a dvd collection. one will see the differences on the profiles from upc and coverart.

just my 2 bits.

This is why "Collector's Edition" should never have been removed from the old editions, even though it was only printed on the sticker. But of course some genius just had to change them, as usual...

The Edition field is for distingushing between different versions of the the same title.  The rules state this and also say that you should use one of the built in selections for this. As this in the rules I don't know how you can say the vote is weak and wrong when it follows the rules as they are layed out.  I think you need to re-read them.

I agree with Patsa in that the Book version should be set up with a generic 'Collector's Edition' edition.  The later version is less distinct and is your average everyday M-Lock keepcase, so IMO does not deserve a particular special edition.

Stickers don't count as a source for the Edition. I already tried that for "The Lost World" which has a sticker "2-Disc Collector's Edition" and it was shot down.

yes the field is there to diffrentiate with two different versions.

jurassic park and jurassic park special edition.(as an example)

In the case of buffy we have 2 completely identical releases except for 2 things the upc and the cover itself. the disc ids are proparbly the same too. Both is named exactly the same on the front cover.

Edition
The Edition field is for distinguishing between DVDs, and for indicating special versions and collections (for example The Criterion Collection, Widescreen, Full-Screen Edition). It's usually safe to use one of the built-in selections if appropriate. If you are using a non-standard description, take it from the DVD box, and ensure it will help distinguish between different releases of the same title.

The rules should proparbly be clarifyed but you cant simply cut the Special edition out of a movie just because its in the database with another cover and UPC if the relese inside the box is excactly the same and the special edition is on the cover. follow the rules but use some sense when u do. The line is there so we can tell regular releases from special edition releases apart not two different releases of the same movie and edition with new cover and upc. I bet that this problem would show up on the new die hard se releases new cover new upc same discs inside cover(in norway)

Now for buffy and angel wheteher or not the words DVD COLLECTION is an edition description or not I am not totally shure, however i see that many other has used this as edition in the past.
