| Posted: | | | | Ok how are we suppose to submit a DVD with acurate information for cast info that is gotten from the website created by the production company for the movie to list the cast. Do we just lie about the source for the information because when I put in that i get it from the website for the movie the profile is getting declined because of third party databsae listed for the information. That is the only place to get accurate information. Actor name/part played for all actors in the movies isnt listed on the back of the DVD's |

| Posted: | | | | The only real source for the cast and crew are the movie credits themselves. You are not suppose to just use the back cover to profile the DVD, but the movie itself is the only "credible" source.
Sorry, but a submission like that is an automatic "no" |

ALL you have to do is follow the Rules, as AESP pointed out. And the back of the DVD is not THE place. The FILM's credits is IT.

| Posted: | | | | Pretty simple but time consuming you need to go to the end credits, and with older films sometimes the opening credits. It might be easier to go to a third party to copy and paste but you MUST verify it with the actual credits and change any info that is different in the third party source to the actual credits. Tom |

Actor name/part played for all actors in the movies isnt listed on the back of the DVD's Welcome to this forum, Venomblade, I hope you'll find it friendly. The contribution rules ask to list cast and crew from the movie's credit, at the end of the film. This was made to avoid ping pong contributions in the places where there are many contributors. With a precise rule, no way to discuss what is "correct" for contribution. I also find it very damaging that because some people can't help contributing changes so that the online database fits their local one, the rules were made so strict. There are many cases where end credits are not satisfying. For me, I do not contribute any more, though I made very complete profiles (not using IMDb) that in my region were not contributed by anybody. I think it is a loss for the database, and for Invelos to get new users in country where there are few contributors. But the rules are the rules, so you have to follow them or to keep your profiles local. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

| Posted: | | | | Venomblade, Just to had to my previous answer. This is not forbidden to use another ressource for the cast, but your primary source must be the movie credits. If someone is not credited you can use another reference, you have a good exemple in this thread, check the last two pages (you will save a lot of time). In fact, I've done some profile with no credit in the movie (adult stuff) and when it's happen you have no choice but to use another way. Hopes my first answer was not too direct ... and welcome |

May I also add to the comments made by previous users that in addition to the movie credits itself, you are also allowed to use a primary source (for common names) such as an official site of the act(o)r(ice)/artist, which can be personal or secondary like from a film studio or a record company. | | | Martin Zuidervliet

| Posted: | | | | In response to surfeur's editorializing. I understand what he wants to do BUT what he fails to comprehend is the DAMAGE that is done by user's not only ping-ponging the data back and forth as the battle over whose play yard the Online database is, but also in the inevitable inaccuracies involved in those situations. I respect Yves' decision not to contribute but he does tend to go on about it. The purpose is NOT for the Online to reflect ANY user's personal preferences on how the data should be presented, we have 500,000 + users and Yves' way will not be the same as Jim's way. Hence the Online merely serves as a starting point for ALL users to construct their own customized database which will suit YOUR purposes and if you choose to upload yourcollection ALL users will get to see the data as YOU present it. | Posted: | | | | @ martin that does NOR apply to assembly of Cast and Crew data, even though I know you believe that it does and will take any loophole you can contrive to violate the Rules.

For instance? Films often have the main cast and crew in the opening credits in order of billing, the end credits either alphabetical or order of appearance. End credits are easier to transcribe and opening credits seldom have the role so this creates more work. The upside is that it is a more accurate reflection of the films credits. If we were starting out again, and I had a say, I'd go for cast and crew in the order credited. BUT we are not starting out this would be such a fundamental rule change that would affect a high percentage of titles, the amount of work involved and the scale and number of updates would not be worth it. |

For instance? 1/ When they are in order of appearance 2/ When they are in alphabetic order 3/ When names or roles are capitalized 4/ When they are in chinese, corean or japanese characters 5/ When there are no roles, only actors names 6/ When name used is not most common for one actor (I never use "credited as") 7/ When there is a spelling mistake on a role ... and probably one or two other reason I've not in mind... | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

1/ When they are in order of appearance 2/ When they are in alphabetic order I have no problem with this - just follow the Ruels; as credited Quote: 3/ When names or roles are capitalized Follow the rules; use normal capitalisation Quote: 4/ When they are in chinese, corean or japanese characters Agreed on this one; very tricky, though if it is a disc with subs the names are often translated (or an English translation page tacked on the end of the credits) Quote: 5/ When there are no roles, only actors names Agreed again... one of my bugbears is people adding role names that are totally out of keeping with the rest of the credits, but to be fair I can't think of a simple Rule to correct this! Quote: 6/ When name used is not most common for one actor (I never use "credited as") To be fair, this is your problem, not a problem with the Rules or the main database Quote: 7/ When there is a spelling mistake on a role No problem again - credited as now that the Rules allow for it and things are really starting to come together with agreements on common names (I've even had to use this on a DVD which was a series of 4 interviews and they mis-spelled one of the 4 interviewees names!) | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |
