| Posted: | | | | What should I contribute as "Original Title" of a foreign movie, if the film was originally released under two different titles?
Detention / Learning Curve

| Posted: | | | | What does the copyright stuff on the back of the cover say...? Otherwise, I'd go by the indication that "Learning Curve" was the video release title and the actual original title is "Detention". They probably changed the name for video, because there was another film with the same title made in the same year. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. There is a "Copyright 2002 Detention, Ltd." in the end credits, but that looks like the name of a company. Also see http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808511026/details Quote:

OK, thus the Original Title would just be "Detention", or would you write down both "Detention / Learning Curve", or "Detention (Learning Curve)", in the Original Title field? | | | -- Enry |

It is quite common that they set up a production company just for one film with the name related to the Title. I would only use "Detention" for Original Title. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

The copyright notice in the end credits just seems to include a company name: "2002 Copyright Detention, Ltd.". The screen title is "Learning Curve", but according to some web sites that would be the video release title, while the original theatrical release would be "Detention". So, would you enter "Learning Curve" as Original Title anyway? Or "Learning Curve (Detention)"? From the Rules: Quote: Foreign Films: The Original Title field will contain the original title for the main feature in the country of origin. | | | -- Enry |

I would only use "Detention" for Original Title. I agree with this. This is quite a common practice to do that, this is you're original title. Most of the time the film and the video release have a different name, at last in many of my title (habitually the exploitation genre in general and sometimes it's a pain in the ... ) |

The back cover in the poster data area lists "Learning Curve", I can find no record of either Learning Curve or Detention at the US Copyright Office, or at least nothing that appears to match this film.

There is no title in the copyright so it defaults to the credits. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free. - Citizen G'Kar |
