Now before you go and hit me or something, I'm simply curious if any of you track your CD collection like you track your DVD collection.  If so, what program do you use?

I have 507 albums from 309 artists and since I've started to hit up garage sales on the weekends to expand my Jukebox ($1 a CD - hard to beat), I'd like to be able to prevent against buying duplicates.  So an app that also comes with a PDA version would be far preferable.

lol i don't yet. but i am looking into it as i have (only) about 200 albums and i seem to have mislaid several! i need to have a database of my cd collection as i am quite absent-minded and (just as DVD Pro has done) a good piece of software would set my mind at rest.

I sometimes think about adding a CD support to my Cinematic Collection Viewer.
But either I only do a simple listing or I would need a good concept from where to start from. There could be so much data one could track. Without a online database where other can contribute data, this second choice would be unmanageable to fully use for a single user. But I am not planning to feature a online source. I wouldn't have time for such a project and also no real interest in it.

I currently have a huge directory tree on my PDA storage card with "Artist > Album" that contains an image of the CD cover.

I could create a web based CD database using ColdFusion and host it on my web server.  Even make it multi-user friendly.  I already have a program written for a CD Jukebox yahoo widget I worked on a while ago that uses an Amazon API to look up covers and track information.

Hey, that just might do the trick.  Of course, I should search to see if someone has already done it.

I'm using MS Excel, which also works on my PDA (Pocket Excel). Not very high tech, but you can use the data sort functions and it keeps track of the number of items in your collection.

I rip all my bought CDs to Harddrive (CDs stored in boxes in cellar) and use Media Center for playing. So I don't need a special tracking software. Ripping stores all the genre, artist, album etc. data directly in the MP3s and Media Center uses these for automatic sort...

I think he should have said "tic toc Doc"

Likewise, I also rip my CD's to store on a computer that has a touch-screen monitor embedded in my dining room wall that's running VirtualMusicJukebox.

I've decided that I'm going to create my own web based version that I can also access on my PDA via Pocket IE.  I found a massive CD database that I can use to prime my database and use different CD lookup sites to populate the covers.  Probably make it user based so others can use it too.  Most likely, free to all users.

Nice thing about web based apps is there's no software to install on the client's computer or PDA and it'll run on on any PDA with a web browser such as the iPhone.

There's too many John's around here.  Every time I see you guys squabble, I have to remember that you're talking about him.  My name's John as well.

Then again, every house should have at least two John's.

That's why I call you Doc. You are one of the few nicknames I use and that is one of the biggest reasons. So Doc it is.

No Skip. You disappear and do everybody a favour. This forum would be much better without you, as many people constantly point out.

Maybe we should have a poll as to who should disappear?
