| Posted: | | | | In a recent contribution someone changed Gian Maria Volontè to Gian Maria Volonté because "Most of the entries I have seen for him in the database are done this way".
I always become suspicious when someone makes a change only to make an entry conform to something else, so I did some research and found the official Gian Maria Volontè web page (www.gianmariavolonte.it) which shows that his name should be spelled Volontè.
The bizarr thing is that someone else later voted Yes with the comment "é is consistent with how it is pronounced in the extras (i.e. as Volontay)". I find it unbelievable that anyone would insist that a persons name should be misspelled in order to conform with how someone pronounced the name in a documentary. Furthermore, even though I don't speak Italian, I doubt that Volontay is how his name is actually pronounced in Italian.
In my opinion, the spelling of the common name should be taken from an authoritative source if one exists, even if the majority of the entries in the database happen to spell that name with a different accent.
So if the majority of Volontè's credits read Volonté (and that is how he is actually credited in the film), they should - in my opinion - be changed to Gian Maria Volontè [credited as Gian Maria Volonté].

| Posted: | | | | If there's an official site, such as in this case, IMHO there isn't even room for debate. With such a "strong" source, I don't even agree with Ken's statement that the "common name" should be what the person is most credited as - if the official site says it's Gian Maria Volontè, then that's what I'd use, even if I'd have a dozen of credits that say Volonté or Volonte... | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | I will offer a suggestion to some well-known users to recheck their votes on ANY Fistful of Dollars as the user has made the same change on at lesat THREE versions along with the SAME mistake.
Just a suggestion, guys.

| Posted: | | | | Thanks for the tip GSyren.
The R1 profile just changed Johnny Wels to Gian Maria Volonté [Johnny Wels] citing the same source.
I know I voted yes so I checked and I for one completely missed the è being incorrectly listed as an é.
vote changed. | | | Last edited: by lyonsden5 |

| Posted: | | | | I hadn't noticed the slight spelling mistake.
The official site lists Volontè, so that is what should be entered. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

| Posted: | | | | I've changed my vote now.
Originally I though it was corrct since Ken had said the 'common' name should be the one most used in the profiles..

That is what the No votes are for, this is not a democracy, it only takes ONE No Vote to spot a legitimate that the user should either fix or the Contribution should be declined. If Gerri looks at the Notes and the website she should be able to easily determine that the Contribution should be declined in its present form; regardless of how many Yes votes there are.
