Ok here goes as it is now Ive got some of my movies sorted in a way, for instance Fearless is sorted Jet Li's Fearless, Jet Li's Hero, and all of my George A Romeros are grouped together. when you link to say IMDB its listed as Fearless but below is Jet Li's Fearless (USA complete title).

So in this respect how do you sort and store your collection?

Simple alpha numeric here too, without regards to Possessive's (Hero would be in H, Fearless in F, etc.)

Same here...man we are a boring bunch.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Alphanumeric - mostly
Boxsets have 'Box:' in title (not contributed and locked)
Also animated movies have the german word 'Trick:' in title.
For some series there's the prefix 'Hitchcock:', 'Jackie Chan:' or '007:'

On the shelf the dvds are sorted the same way!

In the listing, there's a boxset for 'followed by' movies, e.g. 'Pitch Black' and 'Riddick' or the 'Jack Ryan movies - Hunt for red october, Clear and present danger, Patriot games and The sum of all fears'

Enjoy it at 'http://omueller.vlexo.com' or 'http://www.invelos.com/dvdcollection.aspx/omueller'

btw: How often do you resort your collection?! with new titles and returns from loaned dvds it's about all 3 month, that I have to work for hours to get it all sorted again

I've to resort about 4-5 times a year.

Generally I sorted my dvd's in the shelves by genres and in addition to that by box sets with series separated.

Nevertheless I have sometimes problems to retrieve specific dvd's in my shelves

Re-sort? Who has to re-sort?  I let my SortTitle do the sorting for me - in alphanumeric sequence.  If I change a title, it is automatically resorted.  Since I don't print a report (hardcopy or electronic) of my collection (2,500 or so owned, same number of wish list items) it's not important to me how they were sorted last week or yesterday.  That's why I'm using DVD Profiler, for Pete's sake, so I don't have to keep re-sorting titles as I add to my collection.

Oh.., Well to answer that question I'll say this.:

There are four categories (tabs): one is a combination of course of all titles ( wish and own)., That column I have sorted in Title only from A thru Z and produced column of what year movie was released;
Then in my owned column I have that sorted by catalogue number ( each new title being added is assigned the next highest number ( and I make sure that my purchase date is exact),
The my Ordered column is by Date only of when I ordered that DVD so the oldest date is on top.,
and my wish list is priority of Need it /Want it on top and like to have/vague interest near the bottom.

This way of sorting gives me the best of all worlds Title/Year/Cat#/Purchased/and priority all at a fingers notice.
In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.
