| Posted: | | | | I have a question. I just contributed two profiles with a minimal change after having downloaded the profiles freshly from the master database. Yet, when submitting the change, I am prompted also for a small change in the cast list. In both cases, one of the actors had a year between brackets added. Is this some automatic feature in case you have 2 actors with the same name or something like that ? I assume the year is their year of birth. Is this something that is done at server side ? Because if it is done at client side, I guess that my cast list has the duplicate. If that is the case, I risk that sooner or later someone that only has 1 entry for that name, will do a submission that will again remove that YoB. |

| Posted: | | | | My guess is you have those actors in your DB with a BY assoiciated with them. When you downloaded the 'fresh' profiles, profiler saw that you had a person with the same name, assumed they were the same person, and added the BY to that profile locally.
When you upload the profile, with whatever changes you made, that change is also uploaded. Because the BY isn't currently in the main db, it shows as a change even though you didn't make it on purpose.
So, to answer you question, it was probably done locally on your system. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Repter, did you download and use the master headshot database? If so, it has a lot of extra birth years that are not in the online db, and I would recommend that you do not upload them or your contribution will probably be rejected.

| Posted: | | | | Does anyone happen to have a list of the approved BY's that have been added since the BY field was made available? The only 2 I know of are the Colin Farrell's and the currently up for vote Richard O'Brien's.
If we can maintain a post with this info (until Ken introduces his new common name feature/fix) it may make it easier for people to recognize the legit versus the bogus BY info that seems to be going around.
It's not a great solution, but it may help (at least for those who read the forums). | | | "Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" - Douglas Bader "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." - Douglas Adams |

| Posted: | | | | Kevin Smith and Jim Norton are also accepted YOB's
Repter: If you installed the new headshot database from the forum, you may have gained some "unneeded" YOBs from that...
Ken is currently working on a solution to the YOB problem... so... I guess we wait...
EDIT: Astrakan and Vega... i didnt read your posts fully... you mentioned the same thing i did... whooops | | | -JoN | | | Last edited: by ruineddaydreams |

It's not a great solution, but it may help (at least for those who read the forums). I submitted a BY for Bruce Campbell as there is another actor by the same name, now deceased, that was in 3 projects. The BY was added to the 'Congo' profile. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. | Posted: | | | | Does anyone know if the BY for Robin Williams is an approved BY? I've had a submission declined and the only reason I can think of is that my Robin Williams has a BY attached (which I didn't put there). |

| Posted: | | | | did you let it known in your contribution notes that you didn't add the BY? because that could cause a decline. Rules state that if you didn't add the BY yourself to just let that be known in your notes. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | yeah - I mentioned that the BY had come from another profile. I'm going to resubmit anyway when I get home - I was just wondering whether it was worth removing the BY or leaving it on. |

| Posted: | | | | I don't remove them... I just note that they didn't come from me. If by any chance they do keep 2 separate 2 or more actors apart then they belong. So I don't want to mistakenly remove that info as I am not that familiar with actors. Plus I never seen Ken or Gerri say anything about removing them... so I just leave them be. but that is just the way I look at it. | | | Pete |
