I'm seeing more and more cover scans that include the Blu-Ray/HD cases. This doesn't match how DVD's are presented. I assume that it's for quick visually identification as HD.

There's nothing in the rules concerning this but if memory serves, the unwritten rule via forum discussion is that the scans should include a banner at the top of the front scan only and not the entire case.

Case in point: Ghost Rider Blu-Ray.  Existing scan is just of the front cover with a Blu-Ray bar at the top. A pending submission is of the entire case, front and back.

Can we get an official ruling on which (either or both) are acceptable?

The top banner has gotten the thumbs up in every single poll, so yes, use whenever possible.

(PS. Not the entire case though which I notice a lot of Blu-ray profiles have, just the front banner).

Especially now that "HD DVD" and "Blu-ray" no longer exist in the edition field, and thus; nor the online list...

I think once I get back home tonight, I'll dig up some high-quality images for use as the banners for both formats.

That would be great. I vote too for banners only. Other parts of the case should be cropped.

Peter:

I can discus what i have seen. I don't own ANY HD or BD yet. Most seem to want the banner, if I had any I would probably go that way as well, but I haven't even gone so far as to pick one up and study it yet.

I see no reason for keeping it. Not one.

I see several for not keeping the banner, though. Mainly, they all revolve around the effort it takes to keep it.

If we want high quality scans, we must remove the cover from the case.

Now that I have done that I have a good scan of the cover but no banner. Hmmm, what to do? I get it, now I have to scan the banner on one of the cases. OK, now I have a good of the cover and a good scan of the banner. No problem, I have Photoshop and Painshop Pro and a few other programs, I'll use one of them and attach it. ....... Oooops, now the scan of the banner doesn't look right because it has to be cropped or resized to fit the cover scan. Not too big a deal, zap it's done........ Oh no, now the banner looks wierd because it has a shine on the top from the reflection of the light in the scanner because the case is made of shiny plastic. no problem, I can fix that, my program has retouching tools. ah There we go, now I can submit a front scan of my HD or Blu-Ray DVD.

NOT!!!!

<shrugs> I  can't argue that, Dan. That will have to be dealt with by those that favor it. I won't make a judgement until I start buying the things.
