I've just seen a profile up for vote where uncredited cast have been removed as undocumented.

I voted no as it was one of the many that we all had to submit when the program moved from Intervocative to Invelos. From what I remember this was done on the basis of getting it done quickly, which precluded copying extensive notes from the old database. So even though they are undocumented for Invelos, it doesn't mean they weren't submitted with supporting evidence previously.

The question is, is it acceptable to remove data from all the profiles submitted around mid March 2007 on this basis?

I did that contribution (Die Another Day #5050070009804)

You could be right, but looking at the role names they seem to be copied from IMDB. And unfortunately that's the case most of the time. So when there's a large list with uncredited cast I compare them with IMDB and if they're similar I remove them completely, just like I did with this profile. And as I wrote in my contribution notes feel free t re-add them with the proper documentation.

These were the credits listed in the profile:

Quoting #5050070009804:
Quote:
Nina Armstrong as Young Woman at Sword Club (uncredited)
David Decio as Ice Palace Porter (uncredited)
Anna Edwards as Ice Palace Guest (uncredited)
John Gomez as US Intelligence Officer (uncredited)
Christine Hewett as Ice Palace Guest (uncredited)
Thomas Ho as Korean Guard (uncredited)
Lea Jerova as Ice Palace Girl (uncredited)
Madonna as Verity (uncredited)
Gerard Naprous as Old Man at Sword Club (uncredited)
Catherine Porter as Ice Palace Guest (uncredited)
Rocky Taylor as Man at Sword Club (uncredited)
Trevor White as Jumpmaster (uncredited)

And compare them with the IMDB data from may 2005

Quoting IMDB:
Quote:
Nina Armstrong .... Young Woman at Sword Club (uncredited)
David Decio .... Ice Palace Porter/Jinx's Ice Palace valet driver (uncredited)
Anna Edwards .... Ice palace guest (uncredited)
John Gomez .... Buckingham Palace Photographer/US Intelligence Officer (uncredited)
Christine Hewett .... Guest at Ice Palace (uncredited)
Thomas Ho .... Korean Guard (uncredited)
Lea Jerova .... Ice Palace Girl (uncredited)
Madonna .... Verity (uncredited)
Gerard Naprous .... Old Man at Sword Club (uncredited)
Catherine Porter .... Ice Palace Party Guest (uncredited)
Rocky Taylor .... Man at Sword Club (uncredited)
Trevor White .... Jumpmaster (uncredited)

Comparing the two I think it's more likely the credits were copied from IMDB than every uncredited castmember was documented back in the days.

That's the problem with uncredited, it's almost impossible to confirm whether or not it was copied from IMDB, it's entirely possible the person who submitted the original credits to Intervocative submitted them to IMDB as well. It's also the case that the submission rules on Intervocative dissallowed copying from IMDB, although that doesn't mean they didn't slip through.

So for me it's a very grey area. which is why my preference is to leave as is, but I'll go with the consensus.

Uncredited should only be removed where they are a match with a third party database.  Note that they do not have to be an exact match.  If they are a close match with any third party database, and there is no listed justification, it's safe to remove them.

You can, if you wish, search the old Intervocative site for contribution notes. Using my program ContribLookup is one way to do that.

I believe it's acceptable to remove uncredited cast unless the documentation can be supplied.  There is way too much IMDb data in the old Intervocative profiles.

I've seen profiles with a high number of uncredited cast and, while updating the profile, removed them because they virtually matched the IMDb.

When there are uncredited cast like that, my theory is that is best to remove them and then add those that you know are in the film, contributing with documentation.
