| Posted: | | | | I know what his common name is, but what do we actually see here? Is this Brian De Palma or Brian DePalma? For the record: I have no preference, and I've ticked the "Randomize poll option" checkbox. |

| Posted: | | | | Brian DePalma obviously. The distance between the Brian-n and the De-D is easy to see and the distance between the De-E and the Palma-P are the same as all the other letters. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | It's clearly Brian DePalma. The gap between Brian and De is much bigger than that between De and Palma, which looks to be the same as the other characters. |

| Posted: | | | | I think it is not about the space before the De being bigger than the space after the De, but about if there es a space after the De.
To dertermine, if there is a space you have to compare it against comparable other character spacings. In this case I would use the B and the R of Brian (the left line of the P and the R are rather similar and both the E and the B use the full rectangle of their character space).
With this criteria, there is no extra space between the article and the name: Brian DePalma. | | | Complete list of Common Names • A good point for starting with Headshots (and v11.1) |

I meant the space between the E and the P is the same as between the L and the M in his last name. As I said, there isn't any break, so it should be DePalma in those credits. |

In this case the "R" in "BRIAN" looks centered between the "B" and the "I". The "I" looks centered between the "R" and the "A". The "A" looks centered between the "I" and the "N". Likewise, the first "A" in "PALMA" looks centered between the "P" and the "L". The "L" looks centered between the "A" and the "M". The "M" looks centered between the "L" and the "A". However, the "E" does not look centered between the "D" and the "P". There is noticeably more white space between the E-P than between the D-E. This tends to support the "BRIAN DE PALMA" interpretation. --------------- |

Count the spaces baby. if it was three words, the space between Brian and De would be the same as the one between De and Palma. As the spaces considerably smaller and identical to the spaces between other letters, the last name is written as one word. As AiAustria said, the gap is the same as between the first two letters in Brian. |

That's demonstrably false.
--------------- The gap between Brian and DePalma is significantly bigger than between De and Palma, visually similar than that between individual letters in single words. |

| Posted: | | | | I was a typesetter using hot metal, cold type and desktop publishing for over 40 years. The typeface looks like it could be one of the hundreds of different garamond fonts. Whoever set the crawl used a font that has the kern pairs set incorrectly or a program that incorrectly identifies the font. It is a cap and small cap font or a bastardized version of cap and small cap...some programs do that when there isn't a cap and small cap font available. And some typesetters use manual kerning. Bottom line is it's hard to tell why the spacing are the way they are.
Personally, I don't think it was on purpose. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

I can't speak for translation files. It is possible to find almost any font in any iteration you want on the internet. I have several internet tools that allow me to find a specific font or something that almost looks exactly like it. I use them in DVDP overviews. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |
