There are numerous releases for films (official and unofficial entries) in the Ip Man martial arts series, however they are a mess when it comes to capitalization in the title. Is it "IP" with both capitalized or is it "Ip" with just the "I" capitalized? It's 50/50 whether the titles are or aren't for the ones already in the database. Trying to make them uniform for all releases

The case covers are in all caps so if you follow the rule to the letter where things have to match the cover exactly and that DVD Profiler profiles the physical media including the case, then it should also be in all caps.

That said, IMDB and Amazon all list it as "Ip Man" which implies that it is "Ip". The original title is "Yip Man"

According to The Rules:
Quote:
English titles will be automatically capitalized by the contribution system per the Associated Press style title standard.

There is a Capitalization Tool in the rules that Ken added for these types of questions: http://www.invelos.com/dvdpro/contributions/Rules.aspx?display=titles

Yeah, and the capitalization tool tells us that THE IP MAN should be entered as "The IP MAN"

Really, Ken? You need to fix that tool. Oh, wait ...

I can't download the program to my new computer so I couldn't check - that is hysterical.

It is a person's name Ip Man (aka Yip Man)  birth name Ip Kai-man.
If anyone contributes it or it gets auto-filtered to anything else - it's wrong.

I was refering to the online capitalization tool in the rules. No need to use the program.

enter any title in the title capitalization tool as it is on the cover they convert to a incorrect capitalized title.
I don't think it ever worked correctly.

The note for the tool says "Enter the title capitalized per AP style to test."  It also seems to work OK if you enter everything in lower case.

What confuses the issue is this statement in the rules:
Quote:
Check capitalization of the title.

which can be taken to mean that the title should be entered exactly as capitalized.
Now, I personally don't think that's what Ken meant, but it's not clear to me exactly what he meant.

I don't think it really matters.  Ken has stopped participating in the process.

Well, it matters if people think that titles in all upper case should be submitted as such.

I have a feeling this was debated to death back in the day but I don't feel up to searching for it.

It only matters to the extent that you can't be bothered to lock your local titles when you have them to your liking.
