The Truth Is Out There! I watched the entire run last year. But it took me about 10 months. I really took my time on it. Not that I have a widescreen TV, I might have to check it out again. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

You know this would be a lot easier for you to understand if you knew something about databases. I do understand databases, tlevel, probably better than you can possibly imagine. From my perspective, since most people are going to recognize Samuel L Jackson vs Sam Jackson, so maybe we should use Samuel L Jackson.
We are open to suggestions about making some hard and fast rules about this if you have some ideas.
Oldest name, lowest number of letters, most commonly used in DVDP today, looks better on the screen, able to mix up the letters and make the most words with it, rhymes with cat...
-Gerri Gerri: This sounds easy to determine when you are talking about well known actors such Samuel L. Jackson, but it becomes problematic very quickly when you move into the lower levels of recognizable actors and actresses. One I have used in the past is Katleen Freeman, who has also been billed Kathy Freeman, few of ouyr users seem to recognize who she is. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. -Gerri Gerri: For the reasons spelled out by several users already and based on my own experience in database design and that of "She Who Must Be Obeyed"; I think the BEST answer is to stay with AS CREDITED in the film credits and develop the alias liist from that point. To go the way we are heading takes us down the same road as at least one other well-known third-party database whose data is such a wreck that they cannot be relied upon at all to provide accurate information. Is that really what we want to do? Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Sweet! Nice, but are you watching at night with the lights off? |

| Posted: | | | | You just about have to watch this series in the dark.. The scenes themselves are so dark, any light in the room makes it almost impossible to see what's going on. They must have been on a low budget. Electric lights never work in any of the houses or buildings they enter! | | | Hal |

Skip Wow...you'll even tell the staffers themselves what to do. It does NOT take us "down the same road" as IMDB. Ken has stated he wants it done this way. Gerri has stated that it is to be done this way. To me, that's the end of it. Instead of fighting to completely change the system that Ken has designed with the intent for it to be used by us, maybe you should help us out with getting master names pinned down for those such as the example you gave - the less common people. Let me quote one of my favorite shows on television. Dr. Gregory House said this, way back in the first episode of the show.... "To quote the philosopher Jagger, ' You can't always get what you want.'" | | | "I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question: Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?
No, says the man in Washington. It belongs to the poor. No, says the man in the Vatican. It belongs to God. No, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone.
I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose… Rapture." | | | Last edited: by chibul |

Skip In your opinion that is the best way. Ken seems to feel this is the best way. With all due respect to you and 'She Who Must Be Obeyed', what ever happened to following where the programmer leads? I have played with the 'alias/as credited' system and it seems to work quite well. Each profile will still have the actor listed 'As Credited'. Will there be bumps along the way? Of course there will. But at least give it a chance before you try and get Ken to scrap the whole idea. We are only on day three for cripes sake. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. | Posted: | | | | Remember, Unicus, it was YOU who first advised me that most users probably never visit the forums, a small percentage do at best. So anything said here is basically irrelevant to those users, in short they won't know that Gerri has said to use the first credited name as the standard, and that in itself would seem to be potentially problematic. Many actors I do know what there first foray into the world of film was, MANY more I do not. I am simply trying to work through the issues here, excuuuuuuseeee me if i have offended a few tender sensibilities. (chilbul)
