However, a clarification by the Powers That Be would be most welcome and I would settle for any solution Ken wants, as long as there is a clear rule. The guidance we got from Ken, seem to encourage the use of the Credit Lookup Tool. So, if you have Gong Li on screen, you can try the CLT with Li Gong. If you get more results, you can submit Li Gong as the common name and "Gong Li" as credited. If you do the cast for Miami Vice and the credits on screen is Li Gong... you go to the CLT enter Gong LI and find her as the most credted... You can enter a Gong//Li as common name with "Li Gong" as credited. Isn't it simple? | | | Last edited: by tarantino |

| Posted: | | | | The asnswer once again is VERY simple if you will listen for a change.
On Screen says Li Gong that is what you type LI GONG, IF you wish you can use the Common Name to list Gong Li credited as Li Gong..

Isn't it simple? If that's what Ken wants (is it? I am not clear), so be it. However, I'm not entirely against it, but I see a few problems. Checking the CLT for every name is a tiresome process and there are some problems with the CLT system, thus not everybody is doing that. As a result, we'll often get duplicate entries (Gong Li and Li Gong) and only a few duplicates will be linked each other. | | | -- Enry | | | Last edited: by White Pongo, Jr. |

I'm sure that someone will come later to fix any common name with the CLT. In the meanwhile, we have lots of non-linking duplicates. | | | -- Enry |

Not quite: The "requirements" are stipulated in the rules as: "Use the "Credited As" field where the person's name differs from the credited name.To determine whether to enter the name directly as credited, or to use the "Credited As" field, use the Credit Lookup tool." | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection | | | Last edited: by Bad Father |

Ah, but here is the rub...that "requirement" is based on personal knowledge. If you don't know that the person's name differs from the credited name, you don't have to use the "Credited As" field. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | As I have said numerous times, the Program and the Rules are designed to mimic as closely as possible the APPEARANCE of the data On Screen, NOT as you believe it to be, but as it APPEARS. There are provisions which have been made to allow for otherwise with proper documentation.
So your complaint is not really with Profiler, but with the Studios who do not display the names the way you want them to be done. The program only mirrors that for Contribution, if you want to do something else you have the freedom to do that locally and you can use the Credited As system with documentation.

| Posted: | | | | I don't know who you are responding to, but I had no complaint. I was simply pointing out that the 'requirement' mentioned by Max isn't really a requirement. If you don't know that an actor's name differs from the credited name, you are not required to use the 'credited as' field. You simply enter what you see exactly as you see it. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Obviously, the cast was copied from imdb... As it seems also true for all 92 profiles Is there any movie out there where she is credited as Li Gong ? |

After having thought about it, I have come to agree with you and thus change my vote in this poll. Now I vote option "as credited f.e. Gong Li". The reason is that there is no easy way to fit such Chinese names in the name fields of the program, unless we allow for sort of a "Chinese exception", because they reverse their first and last name, and just follow the order on screen regardless of the ideal parsing order. Besides, if she is consistently credited as Gong Li, as you say, there would be no duplicates, provided that we all enter the data as on screen and do not copy from IMDb! | | | -- Enry | | | Last edited: by White Pongo, Jr. |
