I don't think of Television as genre either.

Mainly because all my TV shoows have either "Series" or "Season" in the title. And secondly (but that is just for me) I use a seperate collection number range for TV shows.

Maybe there should just be a new section, and certain genres selections such as TV, anime, animation, accessories etc. could be put in as tickboxes in the same way as Special Features, along with other categorisations that aren't definitive genres, such as those mentioned above.

I would agree with this - perhaps they could be treated like subtitles - i.e. you could select however many you wanted. The order would be alphabetical and after first setting would be locked like SRP in your local database.

Then nobody could argue about the order etc.

I vote yes on that. Maybe Television isn't a real genre, but so are the "genre" Foreign too. And Classic. And so on. It's in the genre list, so we use it, until Ken removes it.

But that's just my opinion.

I always put Television in first slot for a TV series. For TV movies I use the main genre first then Television in second or third slot. I rely heavily on genres for sorting so not having Television for a genre would be disappointing to say the least.

But,,, go ahead and take Television out of the genre list. Just please allow for custom genres...  <wink>
Video= Sony TV / Sony DVP-NC85H (DVD) / XBox 360 (HD-DVD) / PS3 (Blu-ray) / WDTV Live Plus (Haxzored)
QNap Media Server with 10 Terabytes of DVD's ripped so far.
Gaming= XBox (X3 Modded) / PS3 (500gb) / XBox 360-120gb / Wii (Black)
Speakers= Axiom: M80ti (x2) / QS8 (x4) / VP150 (x1)
Sub= SVS - PB12-Ultra/2
AV/Reciever= Integra DTR-8.4

I'll repeat, I have no problem with TV being in the Genre, even though i's not really. It is a good piece of information. My ONLy question relative to this topic is does it REALLY belong in the #1 slot. Is Get Smart first Television and second a Comedy or vice versa, i would argue the latter on the basis that TV is not a TRUE Genre and from a sort viewpoint it matter little where it is.

I hope you don't think my post was directed at you. I was just offering my 2 cents in general. I just like being able to sort using the Television genre for quick scanning to see what I feel like watching at any given moment. Often I'm in the mood for a old TV series so simply scrolling to TELEVISION works nicely for me. There seem to be many ways this can be setup to keep most everyone happy. We just need for Ken to command his troops and maybe try something to see how it might pan out for the genre issue. (custom) <wink>

I even like the CHILD / GRAND CHILD / GREAT GRAND CHILD / GREAT GREAT GRAND CHILD etc,, idea...

Personally I like having Television noted as part of the profile , but would prefer it if it was a separate selection criteria like the subtitles as someone mentioned.
I feel that it is NOT a genre , but since it is currently found there, I will use it as such and probably NOT in the first slot .
'Genres' like Classic, Animation, Television etc should, in my opinion, ideally be split off.
I do like to be able to seperate out the TV Series   etc and also use collection numbers to differentiate as needed.
For some TV series the need for a 3rd genre over and above Television is sometimes there for me.   Perhaps, as was suggested, Genre should be a personal item only and not uploadable.
Well, there you have it. My opinion only and, mataphorically speaking, not intended to tread on anyone's toes!

I think quite a few people do... similarly quite a few follow my preference of having it in the last slot.

A separate checkbox, not in genre would mean it didn't matter but until then I just reorder locally and lock.

FWIW I also have a TV tag for better filtering.

How do you tag "made for cable" or "direct to video" releases?

Made for cable would be put under TV Series, Movie, Mini-Series or Special, depending on the format.
Direct to video I wouldn't tag...I'd simply consider it a movie.
