At least over here in Europe there is an excelent Version (UPC 828765-029698) available: Perfectly restored picture and sound, commentary in German and English, really cool Extras... Quote: Battle Royale: Looks interesting. I own another title kinda along the same lines…The Condemned.
Believe me, The Condemned is NOTHING like this one (if you're talking about the 2007 flic with Steve Austin, that is). And BR is just great (just make sure to get the first one in an unrated edition, and don't bother with part 2).
By being kinda along the same lines, I meant that the premise was similar…a group of people on a deserted island forced to hunt one another for survival. Anywhooo…I’ll give this one a “Need it”. If it helps weeding out the list, Battle Royale gets another vote from me. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

| Posted: | | | | @ 8ballmax: Regarding Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: I fully agree the movie version stinks. The BBC TV series was much better (and a bit "Pythonesque"), provided you can live with cheap special effects. You mentioned you loved the radio plays. Guess what: they're available too! I also agree the George Clooney version of Solaris is rubbish (I wasted money on that too...). Tarkovsky's original is very different though. Could be a bit long in U.S. eyes. If, however, it turns out you like it, you might consider Stalker next. And on a more personal note, please accept my apologies for suggesting Barbarella with Jane Fonda. It was certainly not my intention to offend you in any way. Good luck in choosing from all the suggestions the community has made. Please let us know what you decided in the end! I don't know, the version with Clooney kinda makes me leary on purchasing Tarkovsky's original. I'll check out Stalker though. How could you possibly know my feelings regarding Ms Fonda? Quote: Good luck in choosing from all the suggestions the community has made. Please let us know what you decided in the end! I certainly will. I'm going to go over my list and reread some of the reviews. I'll make my purchase this weekend and let you all know what I got . | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

The original of Solaris is much better than the Clooney remake, there's much more poetry in the Russian. Having said that if it was the pacing that put you off the Clooney one, then the original is just as slow. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | That looks like a fun list. I only own High Fidelity and About a Boy but have seen and liked most of the rest.
Note that the two i mentioned are based on books by the same guy, Nick Hornby, and if you are into reading they are also recommended. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I'm pretty happy with my selections. One thing about gift cards that I don't like is that the retailer makes out like a bandit on these things. You can almost never use all the funds on the card so the retailer ends up with free cash. I did come close though...$150.00 on the card and my total came to $146.04. Since Best Buy has brick & mortar stores they also charged CA sales tax on top of shipping. I would have preferred using the card in the store to avoid shipping costs, and getting another title or two on my list, but most of the titles I ordered weren't available for in-store pick up. But hey, it was a gift | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |
