| Posted: | | | | The effects of low ratings are automated and immediate, and require no input from an administrator. At most, abuse of the reputation feedback system will result in a temporary impact to the target, at the risk of a permanent impact to the abuser.
The thresholds for categorization will not be published and are subject to change as we tune the system. Nor would they mean much as the user's numeric score will also not be available, only the current category.
Editing posts does not result in reputation vote reversal and there is also no indication to the user of which posts generated feedback; this is a moderator function.
We've built this system to be dynamically configurable in several ways, and will monitor and tune as needed. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative | | | Last edited: by Ken Cole |

| Posted: | | | | Sounds good...and makes a lot of sense not to put specific numbers around it. Personally, I don't foresee a lot of abuse going on, since there will be consequences for that, which in my opinion should be as harsh if not harsher than the original offender. I'm really looking forward to this making a dramatic difference in the tone of the forums! | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | Well, I have seen something similar before which devolved into a game, Ken, as people were playing not to anything other than own personal agendas, which sadly around here is the single biggest problem I see.

| Posted: | | | | Does this mean someone's reputation also indicates if his/her contributions can be trusted or not? That also would be a big help, because now I constantly have to remember if an user has made good contributions in the past. Plus I think it would also encourage users to be trustworthy. | | | Martin Zuidervliet

| Posted: | | | | My comment: It's an absolute shame for this community that Ken's coding time had to be wasted on this (unfortunately necessary) new system.
If some users would actually grow up, or at least use their energy on improving profiles instead of hanging out in the forum all day, making nonsensical suggestions, whining about the rules or simply throwing dirt at each other, Ken's time could have been invested on actual Profiler improvements. | | | Michael |

I'm really looking forward to this making a dramatic difference in the tone of the forums! I have to agree with Hal here. I was worried when I first read the proposed change but, after reading what Ken has written, I think it will have a positive effect. The system can't be abused as there are penalties for abuse. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. I agree with you Tigi, but nobody wants to take the first step. Since nobody is willing to give unless the other does first, we are at an impasse. I don't think Ken had any other choice. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Full ACK, but sorry - I'm pretty sure that this new system will be misused even by those users who are more or less responsible for this new "feature" | | | Thorsten |

| Posted: | | | | In concept, I believe this is a good plan. Having visible feedback on who is an overall helpful poster will probably inspire people to go out of their way to get this icon. Since people who abuse the system run the risk of being punished including having their ability to vote down other users removed, this should provide the balance in keeping the system as a whole from failing. But without the abuse preventive measures, I agree that the system would fail. Personally, I rather look forward to voting down spammers. |

I don't see why anyone would belive that is going to change. With the proper monitoring, people should only get 'tagged' when they deserve it. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
