Quote: Apologies in advice if this sounds insulting, it's not meant to be, but can I ask why you count?
Because my familly and friends think I spend too much money on dvd... I like to tell them exactly how many I own to show them it isn't that much, but after they think I'm crazy... LOL, AESP, just show them mine or Srethims'. That may give them some perspective. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | I don't pay any attention. I plug the UPC in, if there are child profiles I add them. I have never tried to change or manipulate the numbers. All I care about is that the DVDs are listed alphabetically so I can find them. |

| Posted: | | | | Seems we are at least three categories that collect movies and use DVDP. The first category includes me, who meticulously count my DVD's in order to know exactly how many movies I have. Also who thinks it's important what counts and what doesn't. The second category being the ones who don't care - because A, they just add things and let everything count or B, they don't care how many movies they have. The third category being you who count only one per each set. That is, TV-series as "1" and box collections of movies as "1". I'm a bit confused however and would maybe need more concrete examples. Because it seems that some of you don't think that movies in a box set should count? Let's take the Lethal Weapon box as an example. How many of you would count it as 1? How many would count it as 5? And how many would count it as 4? IMO the box should count as 4. Not more, not less. And another example. A movie set with a bonus disc, including the feature in another version or AR. Like Brazil: The Criterion Collection (3-disc) or The Evil Dead TrilogyHow many would you count in these respective box sets? Personally I count Brazil as 1 and TEDT as 3. Also, please explain why you wouldn't count double feature editions as more than one title? | | | Last edited: by MikaLove |

| Posted: | | | | 1 movie=1 1 series=1 4 movies in a box set=4 Star Wars Trilogy w/bonus disc=3 Blade Runner 5-Disc set=1
I don't have the particular box set you refer to for Lethal Weapon, but I assume it's 4 movies with a bonus disc. This would be 4 movies to me not 5.
That's why I have a tag called Movie and is applied to the ones I choose. When I want a count, I just apply the filter. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

| Posted: | | | | OK. Then you count your titles like I do. IMO that is the correct way to count as well. Counting fewer is just illogical. And counting more is not very truthful.
I don't have the Lethal Weapon box either. But it's the box with its four child profiles=the four movies. So that would count as five, if you don't set the box itself to count as zero.
I haven't tried those filters or tags. Barely knew they existed. |

| Posted: | | | | I just count releases. Each release is one. Boxsets of 10 movies are 1 etc etc. I'm not bothered by the count in the slightest though (and I also don't bother with child profiles). Just personal preference is all it boils down. Illogical or not, that's how I like it and for my profiler, I'm the only one that counts. |

| Posted: | | | | The way I see it I am not counting movies... but counting the releases I bought. So for me whether it is a single dvd, a boxset, a TV Season (or series) set... they each get 1 count at the parent level and nothing else gets counted. | | | Pete |

I haven't tried those filters or tags. Barely knew they existed. Wanting to count movies... how would you do something like this... Horror Classics 100 Movie Pack Region 1 Released: 4/10/2007 Full Frame 1.33 100 movies on 24 dvds... each disc having between 4 and 6 movies per disc. the only way you would be able to count movies is if you created a manual profile for each and every movie. which I can see doing... as I did it. but not to count the movies... but to have the correct accurate info for each movie. I still only count that as 1 because it is 1 single purchase I made. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Pete, I would count that as 100 movies. I'm just getting around to setting up my numbers the way I really want them. And it involves a lot of manual profiles. In my count, each "work" counts as 1. By "work" I mean a film, a documentary or other program, or a TV series. So, for example: Any movie counts as 1. If it is a BD/DVD combo, that's still a single movie, so it still counts as 1. A box set of movies counts as 0. The movies inside each get a number - so that Lethal Weapon set would count as 4. If the set is of multiple movies on a single disc each movie still counts as 1 - like John Wayne: The Ultimate Collection, which has 25 movies on four discs, the box counts as 0, the discs count as 0, the manual profiles count as 1 each = 25. A TV series counts as 1. I have quite a number of complete series, because I have a large anime component to my collection. Since a lot of anime are released on separate discs, I will have to create manual profiles for each series and nest the discs in them. I will also be creating manual profiles for my other TV series, such as TOS (3 seasons = 1 show = counts as 1). Anyway, that's how I'm working on setting my local up. Ultimately it's personal preference, and how much work one wants to put into it. | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield | | | Last edited: by Danae Cassandra |

| Posted: | | | | I count each movie title as one. I have added in manual profiles for some in sets so that I can have a profile for each movie. They are just basic profiles, but then I still have one for each title.
I count each season of a tv show as 1.
With box sets, the main profile isn't counted, but the movies that are part of the set are.
I have some complete series sets. With that, I still count each season as 1. The main profile I guess you would call it, isn't counted.
I just want to have a profile for each title I have, even if the profile is very basic.
Pete, I would count each movie in that set as one. | | | |

| Posted: | | | | I don't know if we are talking about the same things here? I mean, there are two functions in DVDP that count the titles. The first thing being the titles. You can either choose to count them or to not count them. The second is the function for how many you want the program to count a title as. This is only calculated in the software, unfortunately. First: marked in red Second: marked in green. Screen capIt seems that some of you think it's wrong to count box sets as more than one? Why? To me, this doesn't really matter. All I'm interested in and which seems as the absolutely most logical decision, is to assign a number to each profile in my collection, so that my online and local collection will look exactly the way it looks in my shelves, in real life. Also, I assign the numbers in the order so as to correspond with how the movies are sorted within each box set. Secondly, I have the interest to know how many movies, etc, that I own. And to know that, I count my titles like I described in my first post. | | | Last edited: by MikaLove |

I just personally prefer to count the number of items that I bought over the number of movies I have in my collection. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | I personally use DVD Profiler to count each disc in my collection. I started off like everyone else counting each movie as one. Then when my collection went beyond one bookshelf, I had to come up with another way to store them, without buying more bookshelves (because I don't have the room). This is when I found those dvd cases that would hold 1000 dvd in sleeves. Thus, each sleeve holds 2 dvds and this is why I count each dvd as one. I can look at profiler and find the number of the movie I want to watch and then go to my cases and find it easier then trying to find it on a shelf of hundreds of cases. (I don't keep the cases once they have been added to my collection). |
