How would you document OAR, many of them I know what the OAR was but there are also a lot that I don't. Do you know of a good reference site? Also not terribly sure what OAR is going to gain us info wise, other than trivia.
Skip Documentation would clearly be a challenge. I do not know of a definitive site for this info. All I am saying is that the current "Widescreen", "Full Screen" "P&S" choices do not give us a true representation of many films. Granted, A/R + OAR also would not tell us for instance whether something is matted or P&S. The question is, how much information do we really want to chase down. For me, more is better, even if it is difficult to document. For me, the key is that I do not want to waste my money on a screen format that eliminates data that the director intended for me to see. In most cases, something that is released in other than the OAR is going to do that. | | | Hal |

This needs to be fixed! Can you not just contribute these changes, just as others have done in the past for the larger unusual aspect ratio-ed titles such as a Collateral or a Ben-Hur ?? The list of preacademy and post academy films in differnat A/R is long and confusing. The current list in the dropdown box is the most common and regulary used. I have no problem with a contribution comes thru looking for votes i.e. title's that is 2.00:1 (Apocalypse Now),, or 2.55:1 (Oklahoma ) that is not in the drop down box. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Sure you can, but it will display 1.33:1 if anything other than widescreen is checked. pdf | | | Paul Francis San Juan Capistrano, CA, USA |

Sez you.
What do "Widescreen", "Full Frame" and "Pan & Scan" tell you that A/R + OAR don't?
Well, Rifter?
You're quick with the smartass replies.
How about an answer to the question? Well, excuse the hell out of me for not standing here at attention waiting for you ask a question, especially when the original answer was a sarcastic rejoinder to your usual habit of always wanting to fix what ain't broke. | | | John

pdf Ah yes . the Audio/ Video box display does do what you say., But with my 1925 Charles Chaplin film of Gold Rush which is 'window boxed' at the ratio I believe is about 1.20:1 that ratio would be reverse widescreen. Good Post though, on the forums here .. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

A/R along with whether it is OAR or not is all the information anyone needs. I'd like this, actually. For instance, I have quite a DVD's that feature 2.35:1 cropped to 1.78:1 transfers. In the current set-up, I have no way of showing this, and this way I could. Having that info would be a great reminder that I need to search in other regions for a "proper" DVD of said films... |

| Posted: | | | | Same question to you, Tim. How would that be documented, do you have a reliable resource? Don't misunderstand I am not objecting, but if we got it, and you claimed a 2.35 OAR you know what I am going to say. No Documentation votes No. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! | Posted: | | | | Seems to me that what we would need would be three choices: OAR: Yes/No/Unknown where the default would be Unknown. Changing it to Yes or No would require documentation. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | Well for one thing, hal. There is a difference between Full Screen and Pan & Scan and AR + OAR may give some insight into that area but it won't provide the answer.

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Rifter: Why? Full Screen (also known as Academy Standard) is 1.33:1 (1.37:1 in the Golden Age) by defiinition. P&S is a widescreen modified to fit into FS. There is nothing wrong with the way it works. Hi. I was about to open a new thread about the video format/aspect ratio setting when I came across this one. I recently added to my collection the French DVD edition of The Most Dangerous Game, a 1932 movie directed by Irving Pitchel and Ernest B. Schoedsack (a great movie btw ). In this release the video format is Full Frame, but the ratio is 1.37:1 and not of 1.33:1 (as Rifter stated in his post, both formats can be considered as Full Frame). But when I enter 1.37:1 and Full Frame for that given profile, DVD Profiler shows Full Frame & 1.33:1... I can see there has been some discussion about formats smaller than 1.33:1 and how they can be considered as not being Full Frame, but in the case of 1.37:1 it seems pretty clear that the term Full Frame can be used. Couldn't DVDProfiler accept both ratios under the term Full Frame? | | | Where life had no value, death, sometimes, had its price. That is why bounty killers appeared. |

| Posted: | | | | I can't see this being a big change to the program to allow these ratios to be displayed properly. All Ken has to do is display the typed-in ratio whether the full frame box is ticked or not. |
