Is the plugin available? Perhaps some TT users could adapt it. |

Boy, I was under the impression the people around here came from more than one country. I have never ripped any of my owned DVDs to my server and if I did this would be illegal in my country and most of Europe because their is no legal fair use provision. RIPPED means ILLEGAL in many countries. You need stop being so insular to your own laws and study up. | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

I fully agree; I just object when people start posting as if the law in their region is one that applies worldwide, especially when that post implies other people are stupid for thinking otherwise. | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

Gotta agree, some people have such a narrow focus and don't consider things outside their own experience, which is why we end up with stupidly long threads. Largely with people like me posting posts like this | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |

If you look at his online collection, you'll see that most, if not all (I didn't click on every title) of his titles are R1. I don't know of anywhere in R1 where it's legal to rip copy protected movies. And he is most definately ripping copy protected movies. He's added "(Hard Drive)" to his titles that are ripped and that shows up in his online collection. It's still an assumption, but based off the collection, it's not unreasonable to assume that this is illegal where he lives. He could be living in some foreign country where this is allowed and only purchases R1 titles of course, but that doesn't seem like a logical assumption to me. Of course I couldn't care less one way or another. I think it's absurd that you can't rip your movies for personal use. But that doesn't change the fact that the odds are good that he's breaking the law. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. And the fact still is that you don't know, you assume. Which is exactly what I said in the opening of my second paragraph. What's your point? | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

Point was that there was no point in your text. Words "fact" and "odds are good" doesn't go well in same sentence Those words might not go well together, but they certainly do go together. The evidence says he is most likely breaking the law. That is a fact. I was just pointing out that others said you can't assume he's breaking any law. I was saying there's enough evidence to support that theory very strongly. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

| Posted: | | | | Most of you folks need to get out of your parents basements and get a job. I’ve even got an idea … copyright police for the MPAA. This thread should serve nicely as your resume.
The MPAA has even ackowledged that the’ve got to find a way to allow “fair use” (server/backups/etc) while at the same time preventing bootlegging and downloading.
The legallity/illegality of ripping a DVD you own to a server or for back-up purposes in the US is completely unsettled law. You people who claim you know that this scenario is illegal are completely misinformed.
Here’s a nice link: http://www.technologypundits.com/index.php?article_id=402 Google and you will find hundreds more.
I asked a simply question about DVDP being able to launch ripped DVDs from with within the program. 2 pages later the copyright police/investigators have totally hijacked my question.
Take care folks. I usually like to converse with a slightly more mature and informed group of people. |

| Posted: | | | | Don't add liar to your immaturity and ignorance. The "side" discussion you are having is charging me as a criminal, poking into my profile and reporting the findings, discussing where I live, etc. I DO NOT consider that a side discussion as far as I'm concerned.
Most forums I visit would absolutely ban you for your behavior.
Grow up. |

| Posted: | | | | Poking into your profile and reporting the findings is perfectly acceptable. If you don't like it, then don't make it public.
As for the rest, I simply don't care enough to continue this conversation. I've said my piece and I'm moving on. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |
