If there are actory in my locad db that are not in the master headshot db, will I have screwed up profiles if I resotre the master headshot db?
If you are asking, if actor "John Doe" is in your local database, but not in the Master Headshot db, then will the actor "John Doe" get deleted? Thus screwing up your local profiles. I would think the restore function would only add/modify existing actors. (I hope)
That is exactly my question. No if you have an actor headshot that is not in the headshots master file you will not lose your headshot. If your not 100% sure back up your cast / crew first. Select to do a backup ...de-select everything esle but cast/crew (last option) give the backup a new name good example (boykinheads.dpb) that will save your current cast / crew as it is now. You also use this way to export the cast crew to send to Juoquim for him to include your headshot into the Master File so as to share with the community. Hope this helps Steve |

| Posted: | | | | Downloaded file this AM - mirror #2 if I recall correctly - came quite fast
"Restored" to my cast & crew database and it went smoothly - it did not delete any actors already there as far as I can tell at least
As the creatior warned it did give me a bunch of old dividers that were listed as actors and a bunch of extra unused actors in my cast list.
Great work guys. Thanks.
Brian
P.S. I recall someone memtioning a way to "repair" the database to eliminate unused actors - can someone remind me of that or point me in the right direction? |

If I understand correctly, if you do a database repair, then it will eliminate all actors that you do not currently have assigned to movies in your local database. This will not only cleanup the unassigned actors, but you will also lose the headshots for those actors. For example: John Brown (Headshot) - assigned to Matrix John White (no headshot) - assigned to Dukes of Hazzard Jack Black (Headshot) - not listed in any movie locally Jack Smack (no headshot) - not listed in any movie locally If you do a database repair, Jack Black and Jack Smack will be removed from your local database along with Jack Black's headshot. If you later add the movie Orange County starring Jack Black, he will no longer be removed during a database repair, but you will also no longer have the headshot until you either add it manually, or restore the headshot Master once again. I hope this makes sense. | | | Juoquim

Thanks for the information - what you say does make sense. I see the downside of losing the headshots of unassigned actors ... but in my case with over 2,700 films listed there should not be many missing. (I hope)
Thanks again for the great work. I may try add some heashots myself and send you a file as you suggested.

Keep in mind that if you add a DVD that contains an actor you previously deleted during a database repair - you can always do a restore of the Headshot Master to reclaim the headshot followed by a database repair to clean out the riff-raff again. obvously this only replaces the headshot with the one from the headshot master. If you have a special one that you added yourself then you will lose this. | | | Paul |

One thing I thought might be helpful: If, like me, you have a large-ish collection (it took me over an hour to do all the comparisons), and you sometimes choose to keep your own images instead of the ones in the Master file, you could, after doing all that work, make a backup of your actors database at that point. Then run the db repair. This way, if you later need to import the master again because you added some dvd's with new actors, you can then use the backup you made right after the initial import as it contains the preferred images already. This way you can import it without the compare option, making it go much quicker the second time. Hopefully I explained that clearly enough - it's a bit early... | | | "I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. Not necessarily. You can just select to keep all existing images, and it weill then only add the ones you don't already have. |

He was refering to cleaning the database and removing all cast/crew which were not linked to dvds. And yes, this would have meant losing headshots you added if the people were not currently on any films in your collection. (Which is true for me - I've added some that will be in a tv series that I will buy but not just yet) | | | Paul |
