| Posted: | | | | Why is there a "Former Soviet Union" option but not one for "Russia"? Also - if I try to blank the Country of Origin field, it ignores my edit when saving. | | | Last edited: by Squirrelecto |

| Posted: | | | | It comes from the DVD region definitions. The European part of R5 (the one outside R2) were the Former USSR countries. So European R5 releases tended to be the same for all those countries. Of course, it's not the case nowadays anymore. | | | With every passing hour our solar system comes forty-three thousand miles closer to globular cluster M13 in the constellation Hercules, and still there are some misfits who continue to insist that there is no such thing as progress. |

| Posted: | | | | OK, but country of origin is for the country that produced the film; it's not related to the DVD locality. Or have I misunderstood the use of this new field? |

| Posted: | | | | I'd have to second guess Ken, but I think he used the readily available list of countries in the Locality list, rather than a complete list of independent countries. Of course, we would need the complete list, including countries that used to be when movies where made. I.e. USSR for the Eisenstein movies, but Russia for Nightwatch. And not forgetting the break-up of Tjecho-Slovakia and Jugoslavia. But not for instance Scotland as it lost its independence way before the age of movies . That would make the current situation either a bug report or the desired situation a requested feature... | | | Eric

| Posted: | | | | I see. Makes sense now. Thanks. Night Watch is actually the one I was trying to add the Country of Origin for, which should obviously be Russia. Former Soviet Union doesn't really apply. I guess I will just leave it blank for now. |

| Posted: | | | | Kinda obvious, but please keep in mind: Hong Kong is not a country but a city in China! Hong Kong movies should have of course China as country of origin.
But - what are we doing with movies from before 1997? |

But please don't say next, we need to check when the movie was completed/released, since the hand over was done in summer... | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. | Posted: | | | | How exactly is the country of origin chosen?
The old 60s Karl May "Westerns" are a co-production of West-Germany, France, Yugoslavia and some others AFAIK. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

Its not just a city, it has autonomy. It's not a city if you believe Wikipedia and I have no reason not to. Quote:
There are several cities and towns within Hong Kong, the largest of which include Kowloon, Victoria (Hong Kong Island), Tseun Wan New Town, and Shatin New Town. These entities, however, are not granted any formal administrative status and are either administered as parts of districts (e.g. Sha Tin New Town) or divided up amongst districts (e.g. Tsuen Wan New Town and Kowloon). | Posted: | | | | Sorry I'm confused by this new field and couldn't find anything in the rules as to what it should mean.
I understood it to be the origin of the country the movie is produced by. But, I seen a number of films produced in other countries contributed as USA as the origin of production.
So is this field really the origin of where the DVD is produced and not where the movie was produced? | | | Are you local? This is a local shop the strangers you would bring would not understand us, our customs, our local ways. |

So is this field really the origin of where the DVD is produced and not where the movie was produced? This question was asked and Gerri answered it before... here is her reply about Country of Origin Quoting Gerri Cole: Quote: Yes, that is the intention, Lord of the Rings would be US. It is where the production companies are based.
Elwood Blues is right.
-Gerri So where the production Company is based would be the correct way on how they intended the field. | | | Pete |
