| Posted: | | | | Out of curiosity, I am wondering how many open their DVD's upon receiving them (maybe to check and make sure the discs are ok or etc.,) or do you keep it in the packaging until you are ready to watch said DVD and just trust that the right discs will be there when you are ready to watch, or for you extremists out there (with a fat pocketbook to boot) do you buy to copies of the DVD, open one, and store the other for collection purposes. | | | DVD Profiler user since October 1, 2004 |

If it was ordered from the Web and excessive rattling is found it gets opened immediately to check for damage. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

| Posted: | | | | After seeing that about 1 in maybe 1000 DVDs actually gain in value, speculative buying is not something I can afford.
I'll open them when I get home. Some of the return policies are downright draconian and I hate getting stuck with a bad pressing. | | | Last edited: by mdnitoil |

| Posted: | | | | I'll wait to open them (though they get entered into profiler even before getting into their resting spot). I have to admit, that I need to stop doing that though. I'm getting burned on that right now, kind of. I bought a TV series last summer and just got time to watch it now and the 2nd and 3rd disc (out of 3) are defective and unwatchable. Of course, the store is out of them and can't order from their distributor (I hate Best Buy), so I have to wait until they get them back in which could be months. | | | Lori |

| Posted: | | | | Of course they're opened right away! Or at least within two or three days from buying them. They are opened as I enter them into DVDP, as I put a small sticker with my name and phone number inside the case, so if anyone borrows them, they remember where it belongs... | | | The future is here. | Posted: | | | | If I order online, I typically open them and check the disc right when I get them.
In the store, I normally shake the case to make sure the disc isn't loose. Normally I would put them on the shelf and open them when I go to watch them. But since I have for the first time opened a case to find no disc, I will be opening to verify the disc. Also, given the number of incorrect disc stories coming up these days, I will be checking more closely from now on. | | | Schultzy - http://www.michaelschultz.net grenactics - The art of skillfully fraggin one’s opponent with the use of grenades or other compact explosive devices that are thrown by hand or projected. |

| Posted: | | | | I try to always open them as soon as I get them. I have found that the older that darn sticker on the case gets, the harder it is to get off. Seem to me that on brand new releases, the sticker(s) peel off much easier. | | | Kevin |

I have the habt to open them when I watch them, but for the reason you mentioned I need to get back in the habit to open them when I get them (...and maybe even scanning the Disc-ID right away too). | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. | Posted: | | | | Alrighty, after the results of this poll, I just finished opening around 70 or so DVD's and most looked very good (there were 3 or so I put in a maybe pile that I will check tomorrow, and 1 that the sticker ripped the hell out of the cover ) But I agree with the majority here and think I made the right (or at least the smart) choice in opening my unopened ones, besides the only reason to leave them in the package is to perhaps sell them at a later, and god knows that aint gonna happen. | | | DVD Profiler user since October 1, 2004 |

| Posted: | | | | All my DVDs come by post. UPS or FEDX. I open them, as I'm entering the UPC code to move the profile from ordered to owned. If it's multiple disc set, I build the profiles for them. If it's a movie I'll complete the profile. I always at least scan the covers and enter the disc info if necessary. Double sided discs I use VSO Inspector to scan the discs for erors. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Ineptocracy, You got to love it.
