| Posted: | | | | R1 version is the same: | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free. - Citizen G'Kar | | | Last edited: by TheMadMartian |

| Posted: | | | | O.K., everyone is trying to follow the rules to the letter, and that's great. But please, use some common sense! Using the cute shortened title taglines that the marketing department comes up with, then slaps on the front cover (or slipcover), does not make that the title of the frickin' movie! Just use the movie's real title please. Remember, covers lie! I've already voted no on MIIB and T2 and fear another massive change fiasco. New rule, abbrevations of titles don't count, unless they're in the credit box and the opening credits of the film! |

Front Cover inside the slip says: Terminator 2: Judgement Day Another example of getting what you've asked for. If the slip cover is the artwork in the database, then the title from the slip cover should be in the Title field in DVDP. 'Terminator II: Judgment Day' goes in the Original Title field. After all, 'T2' is "what you see on the shelf"!!!!! | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |

Please show me in the Current Rules where it directs you to use the 'credit block' (except for possessives) or the 'opening credits of the film' to determine the title that goes in the Title field of DVDP! | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | I would argue that "T2" is not the title but only a graphical logo. This brings us to the same situation as with "Batman" where no title is shown on the front cover. In those cases I would support using the credit block (or when not available the spine) to determine the title as a fall back. |

After all, 'T2' is "what you see on the shelf"!!!!! Not neccessarily. The "Front Cover" is one thing, and it reasonably could be argued that the "Front Cover" is never the "Slip Cover", nor is any part of the "Slip Cover" the "Front Cover". | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

But the argument of those in favor of the "DVD Cover Title" is "that's what you see on the shelf"! Changing it to the "credit block" defeats that concept and is no better than using the "title from the film's credits". | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | Speaking of which, why do Japanese DVDs have their front covers where the back cover of a Japanese book would be? | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Hmmmmm....talk about splitting hairs. Again, it was "what you see on the shelf" which was the main argument that people had proffered to get the Rule changed | | | Hal |

My argument has always been that you have to look how the title is used in text form before you can recognise the title from its graphical form on the cover or in the film's credit. The credit block is just the text form which is mostly available and somehow also official. | | | Last edited: by RHo |

Apparently there are some users around here who have nothing better to do than to mess up the database as a hobby. But don't worry, if the majority says 'No' and K&G agree, nothing will be changed. | | | Martin Zuidervliet

| Posted: | | | | Having gone through my collection and used the latest arguments over what is the title or not. We've had people argue about possessives (John Carpenter, Alfred Hitchcock), logos as part of the title (T2, MIB), Secondary Titles (Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles) and the dropping of Episode from the Stars Wars DVDs since they are not on the front cover. If we want to be too literal here are a few changes that I have no intention of submitting, but according a parsing of the rules would probably be correct: Open Your EyesShould now be Open Your Eyes (Abre Los Ojos)Independence Day: Five Star CollectionShould now be ID4: Independence Day: Five Star CollectionTora!
