The Men in Black Thread is closed but here is Ken's post and might be the one being discussed:

"One-off rulings on individual titles are a waste of time - there is always a new twist available to cast a slightly different shade of gray, and users cannot be expected to scour the forums on a title-by-title basis.  Similarly, refining and complicating the rules to satisfactorily contain each of these new variants is an exercise in futility.

Local databases can support an infinite variety of variants for title and other fields, and the local locks are available to make those changes permanent.  With this in mind, hopefully the supporters on both sides of this and other similar debates can agree that the direction of a decision here is less important that the fact of a decision.  Consistency for submission to the online is possible and what we should shoot for.  Agreement on how it "should be" is neither possible nor (thankfully) necessary.

We'll be implementing a global edit for contribution evaluator use.  This will allow us to make a decision on a particular range of titles and standardize them directly.  In this particular case, the titles will be Men in Black, Men in Black II and Men in Black III.  Details on the forthcoming implementation will be posted before we begin making any profile changes."

I know all about that post. But that has nothing to do with getting the correct crew into the profile. I don't see that as the same thing being talked about here at all.

Ken does not limit he decision to titles only - it is applicable to "other fields" as well as "similar debates".

I realize that Kathy... and we won't know until he decides and shares it all with us. But I really don't believe he is talking about letting crew members in a field that is wrong for that field.

PLEASE come back to subject!
This is still not answered helpfully but of interest in Europe:

Production Sound Mixer
- Bruitage
- Bruiteur

A Frenchman would know this.

Sorry, but the english of a frenchman is mostly as good as the french of an englishman. I am a professional translator of french to german for about 30 years. A bruiteur is responsable for the sound effects in the post production and that's NOT the job of the PSM but of the foley artist.

There is a interesting video about the job of the bruiteur (in french - but you can see what he does - he is a foley artist) -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u892ah_NCyg

A PSM is responsible for the recording of all the sound on set during the filmmaking and not for that what this guy do in the video.
This big mistake in this posting is responsible for many wrong crew entries for french movies.

Which is the question that has not been answered?

If you're asking if MickySpoon is right: yes he is. Bruitage and bruiteur both have to do with sound effects, and there's no way a bruiteur can be equaled to Production Sound Mixer.

Revisiting an old thread, mainly because of the link to this thread in the reply to my question about "Soggetto". This is in regard to the French usage, though.

That sounds to me like OMB rather than Story by. Thoughts?

That's how I read those as well, both of them equal "Original Material by"

Totally agree. This should be entered as OMB.
